Term 1 Wrap up for Drama
It has been a busy and exciting term with lots of great projects happening across classes in Year 7, 9, 10, 11 and 12.
The Year 7 Drama Rotation 1 class are busy filming and editing their short films. A big thank you again to Belle Coote for generously sharing her expertise and time to run a Zoom Q and A on theatrical makeup with Josh, Angus and Lorence. The boys really loved the experience and gained many valuable insights.
In Stage 5, students from both classes built Theatre for Children performances using provocations supplied by our junior and preparatory campuses. Over two days, students from Pre-K, Stage 2 and Stage 3 visited to watch the performances and participated in a Q & A with the older students. A big thank you to the following students; Gretel Passlow, Gaia Pattison, Natalie Butterworth, Abby Hillman, Sarah Rivas, Hannah Salins, Giselle Brogan and Haylee Diskin for running an impromptu Drama workshop with Mrs Gerrard’s class. Stage 5 are now busy selecting scripts to participate in the ATYP Intersection festival.
Year 11 Drama students have been building characters for our performance assessments – ‘Dinner at Arjuna’s and Murder at the Hotel Agato’. They have also started work for the AYTF at the Q Theatre, working with professional director and actor, Maggie Davis.
Year 12 Drama students have completed their first two assessment tasks and are now focusing on their Individual Projects before commencing their HSC group performances next term. We have continued to build our connections with theatre companies and practitioners to provide enriching experiences for our students. Year 12 students have been to Belvoir Theatre twice this term. Firstly to view archival screening of HSC texts and again last Friday, with Year 11 students to see Eamon Flack’s sensational production of Into the Woods . We were all so thrilled to see this incredible show. It reminded me of the magic that happens when actors do the hard work and the audience buys in. The students left the theatre with a spark of wonder in their eyes. Congratulations also to Ivy Downes, Emily Monks (Riverside Theatre Upstage Club) Sierra Corkins ( Griffin Theatre Young Ambassador)and Reagan Lloyd ( The Young Belvoir Theatre Club) for their selection in these prestigious drama programs.
Finally, rehearsals continue for the senior production, Xanadu.
This has been a full and very exciting term!
