Middle Unit -2/3

First day of Term 2 and straight back into it!

Everyone was very excited to be back with their friends on Wednesday the 26th of April and the teachers were equally keen to welcome back their students. It was wonderful to hear about the best and worst things that happened on their holidays! We are looking forward to hearing the presentations based on the procedural texts students wrote last term. The photos that have been sent through so far are great! The teachers have been very impressed with the dedication and effort students put in.

Our focus in Reading is building on key strategies, such as phrasing, to improve our reading fluency. Students practised spotting good examples of phrasing in their teacher’s reading and then gave it a go themselves. As we are working on information reports in Writing, we are exploring non-fiction texts in Reading. This gives students are opportunity to explore topics that are interesting to them and work on developing their comprehension strategies, particularly when it comes to unknown or content specific words.

We are beginning to explore information reports in Writing. Students will practise collecting information, then move onto choosing their own animal, researching it and creating an information booklet to share with their peers (and family members of course!).

In Maths, students are learning how to collect and display data. They are going to be responsible for generating their own research question and collecting all the data, which will then be displayed in a variety of ways (tally marks, picture graph, bar graph).

Once again, we are looking forward to a great Term of learning and relationship building. Please reach out if you have any questions.
