Art
What a fantastic term we have seen in the Art room. Students have experimented with led pencil, markers, paint, slicks, colour apps, collage and pastel. It has been great to see how happy and excited all the students have been to enter the art room and explore whatever new activity was in store.
Junior years have experimented with a range of new tools to understand primary, secondary, warm and cool colours. They have learnt why primary colours are so important and explored using these to create secondary colours. Students created colour wheels and discussed the importance of order within it in line with their understanding of primary and secondary colours.
Middle years learned about sketching techniques and how to transfer their knowledge using led pencil to colour. They studied still life pictures and how to show light using shades. They looked at different artworks and discussed how light and shadow are represented
Senior years learnt about space, shape and how to create tones of colour using black and white. Students experimented adding white and black paints to create a colour strip showing slight changes in shade. They discussed how in paintings this technique is used to show shadows.
I have been amazed at the quality of the students' artwork and I’m excited to see what next term brings as our focus turns to Sculpture.
ART SMOCKS
It is really important that ALL students have their own independent art smock that is labelled clearly with their name. If students do not have an art smock they will continue to learn the same skills and techniques as their peers, however will complete the tasks using pastel or pencil. This is to protect their school uniform from becoming damaged with paint.
Term 2
Term 2 the grade 5/6 students will need a 2lt milk bottle and a 600ml plastic bottle for their sculptures. These need to be at school as soon as term 2 begins to ensure students can begin working on their project. If you have a couple of spares it would be greatly appreciated.
