Multi-Sport Synthetic Field

Thursday 20 April was a very exciting day for Frankston High School, where we had the opportunity to officially open the excellent Multi-Purpose Synthetic Facility.

In attendance at the launch were local community and school representatives including:

  • The Mayor of Frankston City Council – Cr Brian Cunial
  • The Liberal Federal Member representing Dunkley – Chris Crewther MP
  • The Managing Director of GrasSports Australia – Mr Bernard Evans
  • Representatives of Frankston Hockey Club – Ross Hull and Stephen Blyth
  • Frankston High School Staff and Sports Leadership Students
  • Frankston High School Council Members
  • Frankston High School Chaplaincy Committee Members
  • Frankston High School PFA Committee Members
  • Frankston High School Sponsors

The state of the art facility will provide excellent opportunities to our staff to teach in excellent year round conditions, and to our students who will be able to learn their skills in a safe and enjoyable environment.

This precinct will soon also incorporate the new two court stadium, will be a tremendous community asset, with many community sporting groups already showing significant interest in utilising these new school facilities after school hours.

As shown by our excellent student leaders at the event, the synthetic facility offers the opportunity for netball, hockey and tennis to be played as well as other sporting activities which can benefit from the excellent multi-purpose surface.

We are proud that Frankston High School is able to offer such a high class facility to our students and community.  It is fantastic recognition of the support from our parents and school community who have provided the resources to allow this to be a fully school funded project.

This project has been many years in the making. The site was not effectively utilised at all with a small sand volleyball court the only reason for students to come down to the lower area of the school. Detailed planning commenced in 2015, final designs, permits and awarding of the contract took place in mid 2016, with the earthworks commencing in late November before the concrete slab was poured in mid January. In the space of five months we have quickly seen the development of the site to the finished product.

The school forwards it appreciation to Mr Bernard Evans and his hard working team at GrasSports Australia who have constructed this facility for the school. They have established an excellent reputation after delivering many elite standard facilities in education, sporting and community settings. This made the decision in selecting GrasSports to construct this facility very easy and they have again delivered an excellent outcome.

The school also recognises our Business Manager Ms Carolyn Florance and our Finance Officer Mr Glenn Davey who have spent significant time in designing, planning and executing this project. They have thought of every fine detail to ensure the design was of the highest standard possible for the benefit of our students.

In the upcoming weeks there will be further enhancements to the lower oval area with concrete paths, bench seating, CCTV cameras for security and a full array of landscaping and planting to beautify the surrounds.
