Senior School News

Welcome Back

I hope everyone had a relaxing holiday and Easter break.  It has been very pleasing to see that students have utilised these holidays in completing homework and preparing study notes and summaries.  I would like to thank our teachers, many of whom made themselves available to assist students with their work over the holiday period.

Parent Student Teacher Conferences

Thank you to all parents, guardians and students who attended these conferences.  The feedback was extremely positive and it was reassuring to know how much the school community values the excellent work of our teachers.  These conferences provide an important opportunity for parents, students and teachers to work together to further improve learning outcomes.

VCE Premier's Award

CONGRATULATIONS TO JACK HIGGINS.

On Thursday 27 April, Jack Higgins received a Premier’s VCE Award at special awards ceremony in the city.  Jack who is currently in Year 12 studied Further Mathematics Units 3 & 4 (Year 12) as part of his Year 11 program. Jack received a perfect study score of 50 students placing him in the top 1% in the state out of all students studying Year 12 Further Mathematics.  It is the 2nd highest enrolment subject in the state behind English.  What makes this an even more remarkable achievement as Jack received such an outstanding result in a Year 12 subject, whilst he was in Year 11.  Congratulations Jack on this fantastic achievement and good luck with your Year 12 studies this year.

Frankston High School Tertiary Expo a Huge Success

On Thursday 27 April afterschool, the annual Frankston High School Tertiary Expo was held in the Senior School Presentation Area.  We were very privileged to have such a large number of tertiary/future learning institutions come to Frankston High School so our students can have direct access to be able to talk to representatives from these institutions so they can make a better informed choice of their desired pathway beyond Frankston High School.  A big thank you to our Careers Practitioner Ms Carolyn Walsh for organising such a large and worthwhile event for our students.

Building Works Underway On The Senior Campus!

A very exciting time on the Senior Campus as the new redevelopments are officially underway.  The former SRC is no longer and has been completely gutted.  An official ‘turn the soil over’ ceremony was held on the old SRC site on Friday 28 April with the local state MP the Hon Mr Paul Edbrooke in attendance.  The first stage is due to be completed by the end of Term 2 then work will start on the 400 block building.  It’s very exciting to see this work underway and we are looking forward when the whole redevelopment is completed to offer exciting new teaching & learning spaces for students as well as aesthetically compliment the more recently completed Science and 300/Administration blocks.  A huge thank you to the Principal of Teaching & Learning Ms Lee Anne Smith who has put in a lot of work behind the scenes liaising with architects and construction companies to get this huge project underway.

Below is a link from Polly Cheng sharing some terrific study habits that top students have.  Polly runs one of the biggest student blogs that talks about study tips, music tutorials and other educational matters that are related to high school students.  She has personally interviewed students who achieved an ATAR of 95+ and discovered how they achieved the outstanding results, such as their study habits.  Polly also reaches out to local educators and invite them to share their tips, stories and experiences.

I am looking forward to attending the Debutante Ball at the Brighton International on Friday 12 May.  The debutantes and their partners will be presented to the local state MP the Hon Mr Paul Edbrooke and his wife.  Best wishes to all students involved in the Debutante Ball, I am sure it will be a very memorable night for you.

Attendance Policy

I would like to remind parents and students of the attendance policy in the Senior School.  Seven unexcused absences in a study and/or 15 absences in a study results in an N result for that study.  Students must ensure all absences are annotated by the coordinators or office staff on the green absence card in their diary.  Students must also ensure their green card is shown to all of their classroom teachers.  In order for the absence to be excused, parents/guardians must provide a note with a specific reason for the absence:  illness, funeral etc.

Mr Simon Cameron

Acting Senior Campus Principal
