Middle School Report

Welcome back to Edgar's Creek

A big welcome back to students and their  families and a warm welcome to any new students and families joining Edgar's Creek Secondary College in 2020.  Edgar's Creek would also like to welcome the new teachers (all 21 of you!) and the 3 new ES staff to our school. We are happy to say, they are also managing to find their way around the school.

It has been a wonderful start to 2020 with classes starting smoothly and students finding their way around the new classroom well.

This term Middle School is looking at attendance and arriving to class on time with the correct resources for every class.  We have introduced a bell following the music to assist students in knowing when class begins. If a student has not arrived to class by the end of the bell chiming they are considered late to class and will be marked accordingly.

Did you know, if your child misses 2 days of school a month that adds up to 4 weeks of a school year!

Summer uniform is to be worn for term 1 and the school appreciates the ongoing support from many families. Please ensure your child has black leather school shoes. Please note that students can only wear the sports jacket with their sports uniform.

Girls: Summer dress, black leather school shoes, white/black socks, school jumper OR grey school trousers/shorts and white school shirt, black leather shoes, school jumper. Blazer is an optional uniform item during term 1.

Year 7

Year sevens have been settling in well to their first year of high school. It is always a big change and can be difficult to adjust to but our year sevens have come in with positivity and eagerness, which has been great to see! They are engaging enthusiastically with their learning and are excited by all the new experiences they will have in their very first year here at ECSC. Year 7 Lake Dewar camp is fast approaching. Please make sure to consent and pay by the 6th of March for your child to attend. Students are excited about the ‘Amazing Race’ and the water sports that they will be trying on the day.

Year 7 Learning

We have a large focus on building literacy of our students through our independent reading program in English. All year 7’s are being asked to have a text of their choice to read. Students are developing their creative writing skills in English by engaging with a range of fun writing tasks.  Students are learning the skill of ‘show not tell’ and have been using steps of the writing process to create stronger and more engaging narratives.

Students will be learning how to use different history skills and knowledge to research and analyse Ancient China in their Humanities classes. Students are developing their chronological order and timeline skills through the focus on this key area of history.

Students in Spanish have been discussing the reasons why they should learn a language along with the overall importance of language and culture. It’s been great to have students saying ‘hola como estas’ when they pass by us in the school yard!

In Science, students are very excited about hands on, practical learning. Students have been working towards getting their Bunsen burner licenses. The upcoming practical ‘Reach for the Stars’ incursion has students building and launching their very own rockets.

Well done to all the year 7’s for a settled and eager start to the term!
