Uplifting Thought

From the Chaplaincy Team

Many of you are returning from holidays. You might have had your holiday plans or lives affected by the bush fire events or even from the fear and concern surrounding the coronavirus.

Many years ago, I was on a trip around Europe.  Late one night our VW camper van slid off the road and became stuck in a snowstorm near the border of Albania and Kosovo.  Due to civil unrest at the time we had been told that we were not to stop under any circumstances until we reached Greece. However, here we were stuck in a seemingly volatile spot without help.

I had learned that the 91st Psalm is a treatment for every situation and I had been reading its verses every day as a protection while travelling.  We needed help quickly, but it was early morning and there was no traffic and the nearest town was a few kilometres away.  We were so grateful when from nowhere two farm workers in a tractor passed us by. They had a chain and were able to pull our camper van back on the road and get us on our way.  The passers by explained they were not supposed to be on that main road with a tractor but as it was very early, and fortunately for us, they had taken a shortcut.

Here is the New Living Translation of Psalm 91, verses 1-4. I do encourage you to read the entire psalm.

1. Those who live in the shelter of the Most High

    will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

2. This I declare about the Lord:

He alone is my refuge, my place of safety;

    He is my God, and I trust him.

3. For he will rescue you from every trap

    and protect you from deadly disease.

4. He will cover you with his feathers.

    He will shelter you with his wings.

    His faithful promises are your armour and protection.

And finally, from Mary Baker Eddy (Miscellany 210:7):  Good thoughts are an impervious armour...
