Discovery Centre

Curriculum

Welcome to the Discovery Centre Online Learning week 2! Congratulations on an amazing first week. As a team we found it very positive and that was because of the support you have given us. We appreciate it immensely. Obviously this term is going to look a lot different but teachers have spent a considerable amount of time discussing, planning and implementing a valuable learning program for all students.

Each day we will releasing new activities for students in Maths, Literacy and Guided Inquiry and Wellbeing in the form of our Choosing Board. We understand that it is a challenging time for a lot of families to fit these activities into their schedule, so we encourage you to complete them throughout the day when you can. We also have a daily check in at 10:00am, this you may have noticed is in the form of a video where we ask the students to answer a question. The check in is where we take attendance for the day, so encourage students to participate in this before 12:00pm if possible.

Last week we focused on settling in to our new home learning situation by setting up home maths kits and home reading spaces. We were so excited to see and hear from students through Seesaw. This week in Literacy we are going to continue to focus on initial sounds as well as practising our handwriting, looking at focusing on the formation of the letter z. During writing it is important to encourage your child to have a go at writing the sounds that they can hear in words, rather than telling them what letter comes next. This will help them build their sounding out strategies. In Maths we are going to be exploring patterns, looking at patterns we can find around us and creating our own.

Once again we would like to express our gratitude to all families that are supporting us teachers and students through these new and challenging times. We are a partnership so if you have any questions please contact us through Sentral. Stay safe and have a wonderful week.
