Curriculum

First of all a huge congratulations to students and families for completing your first week of remote learning! Thank you for all of your support during this time. We have worked hard to make activities as independent as possible for students, our hope is that the more familiar they become with SeeSaw the more independent they will become completing tasks.

All the students have done a wonderful job at navigating the features of SeeSaw and have produced some excellent work!  In Literacy we explored summarising and it was fantastic to hear the students voices when using SWBST (somebody, wanted, but,so and then) to summarise a fiction text. Next we focused on text-to-self connection and the teachers discovered that there are a lot of students who do not enjoy baths just like Harry from the text ‘Harry the Dirty Dog’ and finally the students practised writing a procedural text about a task/job they complete in the morning. It was great to see students using a lot of command verbs and sequencing openers in their writing.

In Maths we looked at time and duration. The students did an excellent job of identifying tasks that took a few seconds, minutes and hours. Thursday was time telling even though it can be a little tricky to draw on technology the students did a great job with o’clock and half past! Our last activity for the week was duration. The teachers were delighted to hear a lot of students responding using the voice recording, Miss Marsh especially, with lots of students singing happy birthday to her on Friday.

This week we are going to trial posting the learning activities at 9:45AM. This is to allow students to first comment on the Daily Check In post before completing that allocated activities. The Daily Check In allows us to interact as a whole class, and also collect attendance. If you are looking for activities to do before 9:45AM, students can use Reading Eggs or Mathletics, read a book, do physical activities or complete an activity from MPRPS Learning @ Home Website. A survey will be going out later this week to get your feedback on learning at home so far. I thank you for your continued support during this time.

We also welcome back Deakin Student Andie Moffatt - Miss Moffatt. Andie will be working with 1/2O again students Via SeeSaw.

Hope you have a good week!

Thank you,

Emma Honan,  Aidan O’Connor , Emma Marsh , Kathy Wang,  Andy Parthenopoulos,  Emily Kiefte , Simone Rock and Erin Bennetts
