Curriculum

Congratulations on completing your first week of remote learning. We are so proud of the work you have done and the patience you have shown when completing school in a way that looks and feels very different!

Last week, daily activities were shared on Google Classroom in the form of a Google Slides presentation. These slides allow you to insert photos of your work as you complete it throughout the day. The slides were then ‘handed in’ through Google Classroom at the end of the day. If you are unsure about how to submit work, there is a short video and instructions on the final slide of the daily tasks. All specialist work was uploaded to Seesaw and added into the relevant folder. Students will continue to submit their work this way over the coming weeks. If teachers have not received work from students, we will contact you through Sentral to see if we can help out!

In Literacy, we planned and drafted our holiday recounts. This week, we will edit our writing and then upload it to Seesaw. We will also begin to set goals for the term, and consider parts of our learning that we would like to improve on. It would be a great idea to discuss these goals as a family to ensure they are both challenging and achievable. Students should still be reading for 15-20 minutes each day and recording their reading in their diary or somewhere visible to parents that could also be shared with teachers.

In Maths, we have continued looking at Place Value and comparing numbers. Students also completed an online Essential Assessment task. These tasks are designed to give teachers information about what students are ready to learn next, so it is normal for students to be unsure about some questions! This week, we will continue working on number, looking at more patterns and skip counting. There have been some commonly asked questions about Mathletics too. Students are still asked to complete 5 Mathletics tasks each week. If you find the app is not responding, please try updating it or deleting it and downloading the latest version. Teachers have all student login details if they are needed.

Our offline choice board has been super successful! It was great to see everyone working on projects or helping out around the house. A picture or description of the chosen task can be added to the end of the Daily Google Slides presentation.

Thank you for your patience and communication throughout this process. We feel that the daily Zoom check-ins are extremely important for student wellbeing and sense of belonging and appreciate your support in getting them logged in on time each day. These 9am check-ins will continue through the week, along with lunchtime chats and optional support for some literacy and numeracy sessions. We are available to be contacted on Sentral if you have any further enquiries!

Looking forward to seeing you again soon,

3/4 Teachers

Reminders

  • We want to remind students of ensuring that they are being a responsible user when working online as well as messaging and speaking appropriately to others when required. This is a message that we often repeat at school but we wanted to highlight this again, particularly under the current circumstances. A good way of thinking about this is if a screenshot was taken of your message and seen by a parent of teacher would you be happy with that?
  • Please make sure your Mathletics app is updated
  • Zoom meetings begin at 9am every day
  • Students submit classwork through Google Classroom (unless directed otherwise)
  • Specialist work is submitted through Seesaw
