Being safe online

During this time of online learning, it is important for our community to be vigilant when it comes to online safety. Teachers are putting in a number of protocols to ensure the safety of all students including:

Foundation to Grade 2

The school has a paid subscription to Seesaw. Only teachers at Mount Pleasant Road Primary can access classes

All families were provided with a unique Home Learning code for Seesaw

Only the teachers and parents can access their child’s account

Different animal icons are used for accounts rather than faces

Only first name and initial of surname are used

Balancing the amount of time spent online by including activities that are offline

Grades 3-6

Teachers have included additional security features on Zoom including, meeting passwords, wait rooms, first name and initial only.

No Zoom meetings are recorded where students faces are visible

Teachers can only communicate one on one with a child with either another teacher present or the parent in the session

Clear expectations have been communicated to students about their conduct online as well as their responsibilities from the Digital Technologies Acceptable Use Agreement

Balancing the amount of time spent online by including activities that are offline

Although online learning can present a range of unique opportunities and ways to connect, we understand that it can be particularly challenging for parents/carers to navigate to ensure their child is safe online. A few top tips from the eSafety Commissioner include:

Use devices in open areas of the home

Set time limits that balance time spent in front of the screen with offline activities

Know the apps, games and sites your children are on

Check the privacy settings on games and apps

Use available technologies to set up parental controls on devices

Be alert to signs of distress
