DISCOVERY DAY

Discovery Day

All the grade 5’s from St. Laurence went to Mary Mac for Discovery Day.  Discovery Day is when all the grade 5’s from different schools go to Mary Mac for the whole day to learn what it’s like to be at high school. Everyone gets a specific coloured tag that decides what group you are in, we were put in groups with people from the other schools so you can meet new people.

Groups were told what home rooms they were going to according to the coloured tags. Every group received a book that had questions.   We had to find out what the answers were, like how many basketball courts are there  or how many picnic tables are around the oval.

After snack we were able to play all around the school. I was looking around for my brother because it was his birthday, but I couldn’t find him in time because the bell went.

After the bell,  my group went to drama and we played a lot of different games. Next our group walked over to cooking and we made honey joys.  Everyone got four each.

It was lunch all ready.  Time went fast from all the fun I had.  At lunch I found my brother and gave him a big hug and said happy birthday to him.  I went to see a band play in front of the music room and then the bell went.

It was the end of the day and most of the other schools had left to go back to school and it was just St. Laurence children left, so we played some sports and we were versing the helpers.  It was time to go back to school.  The day went so fast, it was home time when we got back. It was the best experience anyone can have.   It was the best.   -  Nathan Wright

Yesterday the year fives went to Mary Mackillop College. We traveled in groups around the school and we did lots of awesome activities like wood work, cooking, P.E, music and a tour of the school. There are lots of animals, like birds and blue tongue lizards. I would like to go to this school because it has lots of animals and awesome activities, and a really awesome playground.  -  Aidan

A letter was sent home last week regarding the legislation around over night stays at school.  As you now know, we had to cancel the gr 2 sleepover and therefore the breakfast for the grade 1's was also cancelled.

ST VINNIES CHRISTMAS APPEAL

What does Christmas mean to you?

For many people, Christmas is all about family. Spending time together, sharing a meal and creating meaningful memories. These moments are precious. But what if you couldn't provide a meal for your family, or even a home? This is the reality many Australian families face this Christmas.

Our school community supports the St Vinnes Christmas Appeal each year.   We are asking for donations of non-perishable Christmas items and general grocery items.  Please ensure that all non-perishables are well in date and in good order (not crushed etc).    Each classroom will have a collection box/basket.

FRENCH DAY

French Day on the 29th November. Dress as anything French including French Dressing! It could be combinations of red, white and blue or any one of those colours. There will be free food on the day including sorbet and waffles with berries and pop-corn. Please let me know if you do not wish your child to have any of these foods. Also let your child know that you don't want them to have any of these foods.     Merci Mme Gatehouse

The P & F are asking for 6 parent helpers to assist with making popcorn,  bagging the popcorn for the cinema and for the Christmas market.  To get into the spirit of the day parents encouraged to dress up or wear something French inspired if you feel you can.    Please contact the P & F

on stlaurencepandf@gmail.com if you can help out.
