Wellbeing Report

It has been a busy start to the term in the Wellbeing area, with a number of guest speaker visiting Nazareth and working with our students.

On Tuesday 9th October, Year 9 and 10 girls attended a session run by Catherine Manning from Seed Workshops. She presented an engaging and thought provoking session on pressures faced by young women in this age of technology, and provided strategies to address these positively. Seed workshops promote positive mental health by providing a range of proven stress busting techniques for girls to use in their daily lives to increase well-being and facilitate better learning outcomes. Catherine discussed the media’s influence in people's lives, including how it often presents a narrow, unobtainable beauty ideal for girls and women and she uncovered the tricks of the trade to empower girls to see and embrace their own beauty and style - inside and out. Catherine also provided valuable information about online risks, discussing tools which girls can use to provide more safe and positive online experiences. Many of the ideas she presented were reported on in The Age newspaper last Thursday, which featured Catherine and her daughter, coinciding with International Day of the Girl. The article can be accessed by following the link above.

Another fantastic incursion last week which our 2019 school leaders were involved in was a public speaking presentation. Run by Elaine Doyle from Train to Speak, the students learnt about a number of aspects to consider when presenting to an audience, including thorough preparation, introducing other speakers, controlling body language and nerves, developing speech writing to convey a strong message, and use of voice. Active role play gave students a chance to try these skills in a safe environment.

As a leadership group, we will continue to work on these skills over the coming weeks and months.
