Principal's Report

Dear Families and Friends of Nazareth College

Welcome to the beginning of Term 4! A special time for all students to consolidate their year and to excel in their final preparation and exams.

Presentation Evening

This week we have celebrated the pinnacle event of the year for our Year 7s and Year 12s.  The Presentation Evening, which honours the efforts of many exceptional students who have, in many ways, stood out for a variety of reasons.  I congratulate all the nominees and hope that for many of you these nominations will inspire you to succeed further in whatever you do in years to come.

The Principal’s Award is also given in recognition of outstanding academic performance as well as applying oneself to numerous co-curricular activities.  It is an Award that acknowledges one all rounder from each Year Level.

I thank the many distinguished guests who have come to present special awards.  Your presence makes the evening so much more exceptional for each of the recipients and their parents.

Team Effort helps Children in Need

I thank the members of Mini Vinnies, together with our LEAP and VCAL students who helped raise in excess of $2300 so that every Pastoral Homeroom can sponsor a child from a participating Third World Country to attend school for an entire year.

This is a sign of how young Nazarenes join forces to help those less fortunate than themselves.

Changes to 2019 School Times

From the commencement of 2019, the school day will begin at 8.45am with Homeroom (10 minutes) on Days 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 and 10.  It will then follow with 4 x 75 minute periods with classes concluding at 3.15pm.

On Day 2 (Tuesday), classes will finish at lunchtime and the day will commence with Periods 1, 2, Recess, Homeroom and Extended Pastoral followed by Period 3.

Students will then be dismissed at lunchtime to enable Professional Learning activities, meetings and other staff team gatherings.

On Day 7 (Tuesday), we commence with Periods 1, 2, Recess, Pastoral and Extended Pastoral, Period 3, Lunch and Period 4.  These periods will be slightly shorter to allow the Extended Pastoral period to run.

All Aboard!

We have secured an old tram and hope to run some programs with our students and staff to refurbish it back to its former glory and then design a Hospitality Venue for parents and students to sit and chat whilst enjoying a coffee served by Nazareth’s Hospitality Team.

This is an exciting venture which allows many of our families to help with the restoration works.  We hope to receive delivery of the tram in the coming month.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Heidi Ware who came Second in the Old Girls Benalla P-12 College 2018 35th Annual Sporting Clay Target Championships.

During the competition, Heidi shot 14 out of 20 and for the shoot off – 5 out of 5.

Well done Heidi!

St Justin’s Fair

Please see the attached flyer promoting the St Justin’s Fair on the Hill which is taking place on Saturday 10 November 2018 from 11.00am – 5.00pm.

Hopefully you can attend and support one of our Feeder School Parish’s events.

Conclusion

I take this opportunity to invite any parents or community members with ideas concerning schools working in partnership with Nazareth College on specific projects.

Please feel free to contact my office to share your thoughts and hopefully, together, we can make them come to fruition.

God Bless

Mr Sam Cosentino
