Around The Primary

Dear Parents
Open Night
Our Primary Open Night is next Monday 17 September from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. All classrooms will be available for parents to visit and to celebrate with your children their learning journey. Feel free to browse every room not just your own child’s classroom because there are wonderful things to see in every space of the school. Please extend the welcome to your wider family, it would be great to see grandparents too.
This night is part of the Primary school’s reporting process. As such, while your child is touring you around their classroom, encourage them to explain to you their learning journey. It is important that they explain to you what they learnt and the process involved with particular learning activities.
It is important to note that Open Night is not an occasion for a brief teacher interview about your child’s progress as the staff need to be available to everyone visiting their classrooms. From 5.00pm onwards you might like to make your way to the MacKillop Room or Library to experience some of the musical talents from our students.
Footsteps
This term the students have enjoyed participating in their weekly dance sessions. All parents are welcome to come along to the ‘Footsteps Finale’ on
- Thursday 20 September at 2:00 pm for all B Classes
- Friday 21 September at 2:00 pm for all G Classes
Both the dance showcases will be in the Gym. All students can wear their sports uniform on their allocated dance day. They will then change into their simple costumes at lunch time. (See below Costume List)
I look forward to seeing many parents at this entertaining event!
Musical
Thank you for all the wonderful feedback about the Year 4 Musical, I’m sure everyone will enjoy viewing the highlights from this magical performance.
Kind regards

Year 1 Assembly
It was wonderful to see so many parents and grandparents arriving for the Year One Assembly this morning. It was delightful to see so many happy and excited faces on stage sharing their knowledge all about numbers in such a creative and fun way. Special thanks to Miss Saraco and Ms Ilich, Ms McKeague and all our clever mathematicians from Year One.
Well done to all the students who received a certificate for their fantastic achievements.

Out and About
The Pre Primary classes have been learning all about workers and places in our community and enjoyed a visit to Floreat Forum.
Many shop owners at the Floreat Forum kindly talked to the children about the services and goods they provide for them and their families.
During the excursion the children bought a stamp from the post office and posted themselves a letter! This lead to an interesting discussion as to how it will get from the red post box to their letter box!!
The staff at Floreat Market explained to the children about where their products were grown and how it was delivered to the shop ready for their parents to buy. The children were able to buy a piece of fruit for morning tea.
The children had great fun decorating and then eating a cupcake at ‘Petals’ bakery. On the other hand, the energetic staff up at Fitness First put the children through a few Zumba moves. They also learnt a lot about healthy eating and environmental sustainability at, Source, the Bulk food store whereas at ‘Just Cut’ hair the children learnt about how fast hair grows!
The staff at V Burgers demonstrated how they make their burgers and cooked them on the big grill.
Finally, the children made a quick visit to the local Library before making the short trip back to school.
We thank the Management at the Forum and all the owners and staff at the participating stores for their willingness to be involved and our great team of parent volunteers for joining us on this informative excursion.

Sports News
At the Years 3–6 Interhouse Athletics all our competitors ran with great skill and enthusiasm. I was particularly impressed with the sportsmanship shown by our students on the day. The overall points were:-
Koolyangarra: 1034 pts
Ward: 839 pts
Loreto: 836 pts
Campion: 809 pts
St. Louis: 765 pts
Loyola: 700 pts
Congratulations to all our competitors and especially to the members of Koolyangarra for winning the shield. Special thanks to the Parents Association for providing the funding for the Timing Gates at this event. It makes the day so much more relaxed and enjoyable.
Overall, it was a hugely successful day and the competitors were well prepared for their Inter-School Carnival.
Yesterday, our students took part in the IPSHA Inter-School Athletics Carnival at All Saints College. Details to follow next week.
