Pastoral Care News

Last week students acknowledged and celebrated Pancake Day / Shrove Tuesday in preparation for commencing Lent. The C.A.T hosted a successful pancake stall and raffle with profits going towards our major term 1 activity. “Bee Kind”. All homerooms have nominated to raise funds for either a beehive or a koala bear and some rooms have indicated that they wish to raise funds for both causes. Donations will be collected until Friday 3rd April.

The day was enjoyed by all and the members of the team wish to express their thanks and gratitude for those who supported the initiative.

This week we hosted our first CAREVAN cooking for the term, and indeed the year. We were joined by some familiar faces and were very excited to welcome many of our new year 7 students. The students had the opportunity to meet others from different year groups and assisted in the preparation of asian beef. As the students gain confidence they will indeed mentor any new volunteers and broaden their friendship circle with students from other year groups. This would not occur if not for their involvement and willingness to volunteer and help others.

Some of our senior students are also to be congratulated for their assistance with our neighbours at the Legacy units across the road. What seems like a simple task to one person can be quite a logistical nightmare for others. The task is very simple. On a weekly basis the students will move the garbage bins in preparation for collection the following morning. As you can imagine for those who are frail or have mobility issues this simple task can be daunting. The students involved are a credit to not only their families but also their school.

This year more than ever we have seen the value of volunteers within our community. Who knows; perhaps by getting involved as a volunteer at a young age at school that students will take this life lesson with them as they leave our community and make their way into the wider community. Let’s hope so!!!

Finally, just a reminder please of the importance of having all students’ goods and uniforms labelled please. With over 700 students now it is a nightmare trying to sort out lost property.

Have a wonderful weekend and stay safe
