HSC
This year marks the 50th anniversary since the first HSC exam was held. Minister for Education, Mr Rob Stokes, congratulated all HSC students on reaching this point and wished them well in the coming weeks. He said “during the past 50 years, more than 2.3 million students have studied the HSC. That’s millions of Australians educated, nurtured, and guided to adulthood by our wonderfully dedicated teachers”. More than 60,000 students sat English Standard, English Advanced or English as a Second Language as they began their first exams on Monday. McCarthy has 120 candidates entered for the HSC. We wish them all the very best for these examinations and I am confident that this year will be a year of high growth and personal bests.
Year 11
A reminder to Year 11 parents, Parent/Teacher Interviews are on Wednesday 25 October in the Library from 4:00pm - 6:30pm in the Library. Further information about the evening will be emailed along with Preliminary Reports.
Whilst for the junior years the road to the HSC can seem too far in the distance, it is very important that positive routines and habits are formed early, when it comes to purposeful study. With end of year exams commencing in Week 6, now is the time to ensure books are up to date and organised in order to productively revise.

Year 9 HSIE
At the end of last term, Year 9 HSIE created a world map of the different biomes using lollies.
It was a fun lesson and the students really enjoyed creating the map (and then eating the leftovers). Year 9 had to consider the spatial dimensions of the world, the features of the map, and how the biomes are situated across the globe.
