Tournament of Minds

Our Tournament of Minds team has been working tirelessly to prepare for their Challenges this Saturday at ECU, Joondalup. They will participate in problem-solving and discovery challenges as part of a team, working together to make decisions, solve problems and communicate effectively with each other.

The St Norbert College team decided to focus on the STEM (Science, Technology Engineering and Mathematics) Challenge. They have worked through lunch breaks and after school over the weeks to formulate a solution to their chosen challenge and will have 10 minutes to present their solution at the Tournament. The team has created an awesome new species of animal who they have nicknamed, Dave. Dave was built entirely from recycled materials and he can eat, move and make sounds.

The second component of the tournament will require the team to attempt to find solutions to a previously unseen Spontaneous Challenge.

We wish the following students all the best in their Challenges:

Year 7 – Isabella Hulm and Sophie Griffiths

Year 8 – Ayden Ratnasekera and Varun Shivnani

Year 9 – Mya Oppelaar, Alyssa Yang and Tony Ngo

Science Café

Science Café is a National Science Week event presented by Scitech and The University of Western Australia, and supported by Chevron. This event aims to support and inspire the next generation of WA’s STEM professionals, and provide the students with a unique opportunity to speak one-on-one with STEM professionals and STEM undergraduate students to receive practical knowledge about careers in science, technology, engineering and maths.

St Norbert College was invited to participate in Science Café 2018, held at UWA, yesterday. Congratulations to Selina Tan, Elsa Tan, Amanda D’Cruz, Licia Benedict, Shin Bawar, Lorenzo Donatelli, Riley Moore and Ankit Gurung for being selected to attend the event. I hope you had a very informative day.

"I was able to meet new people today and gain an insight into what it was like going to a university and the courses I can do there. I was able to see what it was like in the shoes of the uni students as I talked to them about UWA and how to get in using an ATAR score. I now have more knowledge into making the right choices for the university I go to, the courses I do there and the career I go into afterwards."

Lorenzo Donatelli (K3 Homeroom)

Thank you to Mr D’Souza for accompanying the students.
