St Norbert College Receives Sporting Schools Funding
Sporting Schools is an Australian Government initiative designed to help schools increase children's participation in sport, and to connect them with community sporting opportunities.
Sporting Schools has developed a targeted program for secondary school students in Years 7 and 8.
The targeted program focuses on Year 7 and 8 students, in order to address the barriers that prevent teenagers from participating in sport.
The program for secondary schools also aims to provide greater access to tailored resources and support where it is needed most.
Our College was successful in securing funding to enhance our delivery of Athletics within our Physical Education Curriculum in Year 7 and 8 in Term One. Many thanks need to go to Athletics Australia for supplying teacher professional development and Alby Smith from Up and Running Sports for supplying our athletics equipment.
Those students looking to continue with athletics over the summer are encouraged to head to the WA Little Athletics for registration details.
Sporting Schools has already funded over 150 secondary schools and aims to fund more schools each term, giving Year 7 and 8 students the chance to enjoy and sample a variety of sports

Perth Redbacks Domestic Community
The Perth Redbacks' popular Summer competitions will be receiving some key changes as we place a stronger emphasis on continuing to evolve and strengthen our domestic programs to ensure our members receive best-practice junior domestic competitions. To do this we have reviewed a number of key issues such as court space, female/male participation and age groups.
We again expect the Summer season at Loftus and Vic Park to fill up and to cater for increasing demand we will be making some key changes:
- Our Leisurelife competition will now offer only BOYS or GIRLS competitions, with MIXED basketball now only being offered in our Under 8 age groups. Please note that Loftus will continue to operate as a MIXED competition at all age groups for the Summer season.
- Our existing offerings at Belmont and Leisurelife will be joined to form ONE competition with teams playing games each week at either Leisurelife or Belmont.
- We will be implementing a number of new initiatives in coach development to support our clubs with this transition.
- Age groups will remain at December 31 the year the competition ends. For Summer this means all players must be UNDER the age of the competition at December 31, 2019. We will continue to review this moving forward. For the Summer competition, players must be born in the following age groups:
- Under 8 - 2012 and 2013
- Under 10 - 2010 and 2011
- Under 12 - 2008 and 2009
- Under 14 - 2006 and 2007
- Under 16 - 2004 and 2005
- Under 18 - 2002 and 2003
We are incredibly excited to see the continued transformation and strengthening of your domestic competition. There will be a number of opportunities over the season to provide feedback on the changes to ensure the competition evolves for the 2019 Winter season.
Team nominations are now open at www.perthredbacks.asn.au or by emailing: admin@perthredbacks.asn.au. You can also register online at: https://membership.sportstg.com/regoform.cgi?formID=80625
