I think everyone would agree Term 4 was crazy with the number of events across all year levels. Let it never be said schools don’t do much towards the end of the year. It feels like we were going a thousand miles an hour. There were highlights including our junior ‘Let’s Groove’ concert and transition day which created a real buzz around the school. Carols night was very successful and finally, our new preps for 2020 completed their orientation. They make such a lovely cohort.
Classroom Helpers
It was a pleasure to put on a morning tea for all our classroom helpers by our staff. Without you many things would not happen around the school. From the bottom of our hearts we really do want to say, “Thank you”.
School Council 2019
Thank you to our 2019 School Council. Your efforts do not go unnoticed and are greatly appreciated by the school and our community. It takes a lot to volunteer your time and energy. You ensure governance and oversight of the things we do. You have all demonstrated a deeper understanding of what is actually required to run a large school. I would encourage any parent who wants to get involved, to do so as it is extremely worthwhile and rewarding when looking at the big picture. Again, I would like to acknowledge the work of our retired president Helen Evans and our current president Bryan Elliott.
Parent Club
Thank you to all those involved in Parent Club in whatever manner. The life line between school and home can usually be found through this outlet. It is imperative for a high functioning school to have parent input and support. I implore ALL parents to get involved in whatever capacity.
2020
We are more advanced in our preparations for 2020 than in any previous year. Our whole school focus and alignment for next year is razor sharp. There will be some physical and structural changes next year that will support our strategic targets. Change can be a very confronting thing for some, but rest assured every single change is made because we are here for the students. We all have student needs at the heart of any decision. I would ask that you trust us, as professionals, to do what is best for our 650 students.
Holiday Provocation
Over the Christmas break please do not feel bad if you allow your children to be bored. Boredom ignites creativity and fantasy play. Your children do not need to be stimulated all the time by technology. Encourage them to get out in the yard and play. Provide opportunities for children to buy things at shops so as they develop their fiscal literacy skills. Most importantly do not remove all obstacles before your child. Let them have real life experiences including conundrums, consequences for decision making, dilemmas or other real-life issues. Help children build resilience and strategies that can be applied to different situations. If we are truly laying the foundations for success this includes failure. Without failure where is the teachable moment? It can be hard knowing your child is going to fail and your immediate action is to step in and solve the issue. Unfortunately, that does nothing to build your child’s character. You can achieve so much more by being a confident and supportive parent. I ask you to pay attention to what you say and do and check whether you are providing your child with the tools to use in future years or are you just making it easier for them?
From all of the Kingswood staff, we wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a happy New Year. Stay safe and enjoy these precious moments with your children and families. We will see you all in late January.
