In the Classrooms

Maths

Earn and Learn is in its last weeks of running. So far the children have learnt about tax, businesses, spending and expenditure, managing their own money and income. Dealing with customers, innovating and improving their business plans to maximise their income. Looking at the difference of renting compared to buying real estate. Percentages, change giving, understanding the value of money and Australian money vs Moyhu money. Fines and bonuses.

Our Earn and Learn program has been a rich learning experience for all the children, allowing them to demonstrate their strengths and improve their financial and mathematical understanding through peer interactions, hands on experiences and role play.

Literacy

We have now finished our information narratives. The children did an amazing job in publishing their books. We have been taking our time sharing and providing positive feedback to all books over the week just gone. The topics and information gathered has been vast including technicolour, optical illusions, Blue Belgium cattle, why the sky changes colour, McLaren racing cars, how to train tigers and many more. All books are on display in the classroom for all to read.

Our new literacy topic is looking at picture story books. The children are deciphering their own story retells based on only the pictures from picture books. They will then get to develop their story telling skills before sharing with the whole school and reading the original story together.

Next week we will be taking this one step further with the children developing their own picture storybook and telling a story through their drawings.

We have also been enjoying reading The Quest series by Aaron Becker as a who school and practicing our questing, inferring and predicting skills.
