College Communication

The last 12 months has been a big rationalisation of communication in the College. To keep parents up to date here is a list of the ways we communicate:
Phone
We still like to talk to our parents. If we ring please don’t assume it’s for a bad reason! 99.99% of the time it’s not! Feel free to ring the College Front Office if you need information rather than relying on other parents as information can be miscommunicated or be for other groups of students. We encourage our parents to connect with teaching staff so if you have concerns or you would just like to know how your child is going in a particular class please feel free to call and discuss.
Email & SMS
General communication will be sent by email and urgent communication will be sent by SMS. General communication, for example, is information for parents on student reports being available on Edumate, tuition fee charges being available to view on Edumate, notifications of general changes to policies or procedures that effect the whole College or certain groups within the College etc.
Schoolbox
Is the Learning Management System software used by our teaching staff to communicate effectively with our students to give them details of lesson plans, assignment details and due dates, personal timetables, information that students need for changes through the day etc.
Edumate (Parent Portal)
Is our administration software and is used by administration and teaching staff. Parents have been given access to Edumate via the Parent Portal because this is now the way the College communicates student reports, tuition fee charges, the ability for parents to change personal information, for parents to see the timetable of their child(ren), to be able to notify the College of their child’s absence and to notify the College of their acceptance of excursion notes etc.
SchoolBag
Has been phased out and is no longer in use by the College.
The official College FaceBook page can be found by searching for TareeChristianCollege. This is where we place good news stories, share info that we think might be helpful to parents on issues that aren’t necessarily school related, and just general things going on that people might be interested in but isn’t essential to know. There are several FaceBook pages that have associated themselves with the College but they are not run by the school and the College will not be responsible for any miscommunication or other inappropriateness that occurs on those pages.
Frequently Asked Questions...
- Why are there so many forms of communication? Unfortunately there’s no one piece of software that can do all the functionality that we need in the school, and our parents like to communicate in various different ways so we try to cater for that as best we can. With over 600 students and over 400 families communication has become an art form in itself.
- Why do we need to have all this electronic communication? With over 620 students now sending out paper notes has become completely impractical as well as hugely expensive – and, as much as we love our students, they’re not all good at actually handing their parents a note sitting in the bottom of their school bag. Electronic communication is time efficient and environmentally conscious. Just be mindful that this is a change in thinking for all of us and will take time to get right.
- I can’t remember the link to the Parent Portal? http://tcc.college/portal (It’s on the College website, click on the tab and follow the prompts, it is also on the term dates magnet)
- I’ve lost my username and password for the Parent Portal. What do I do? If you’ve never logged on before give the College a call and we will let you know your username and password and walk you through logging on if you need help. If you’ve logged on previously just click on the “Lost my password” link on the portal log on page and follow the prompts. If you’re new to the school in 2018 you will receive an email shortly to give you your login details.
- I get an error message after I change my password. Yes, unfortunately that is something we can’t seem to solve. Just make sure you use the http://tcc.college/portal link and re-enter your username and new password and it will work just fine.
- I can’t seem to see much on the Parent Portal page. Make sure you are using Google Chrome and make sure you have allowed pop ups.
- What’s the difference between all these types of communication? See above
