Staff V Students Competition

I can’t believe I am writing this, but after the Puzzle challenge last week the students are now in front, leading 7 to 6.

Thank you to Mr Knowles for designing and leading this activity and to all staff and students involved.

We only have 2 events left for the year, and we have certainly saved the best till last. Term 4, Week 1, we will kick off with netball, followed by Basketball in Week 2.

Staff and students will be rewarded for participation and teamwork, with an Most Valuable Player award for female and male staff and students being presented at the upcoming Graduation Assembly.

Scores for MVP are tight and I can’t wait to reveal alongside the trophy – may the best team (staff) win!

Battle of the Houses

A massive congratulations and thank you to our 2019 House Leaders Cass, Leo, Komal, Jared, Liam, Celeste, James and Daniel.

On The 9th of September they delivered the 2019 Battle of the Houses Event.

This took enormous preparation and organisation in the months leading up, with weekly meetings and outstanding communication from the team in between.

The students led the event, running auditions, rehearsals and liaising with key members of our community to ensure a successful and entertaining showcase of performing arts.

Thank you to Ms Dawson, Mr Christiansen, Mr O’Connor and Mr Cusack for supporting students with their leadership of House Events this year.

SRC Update

The SRC is proud to announce that the most recent Out of Uniform Day raised over $800 for the ACE Foundation, a local charity that gives to our community every day. Thank you to all SRC members for their organisation and leadership of the event.

Last week to support the Wellbeing Team with RUOK Day, the students led a Jellybean guessing competition. We had 2 guesses that were spot on!

Congratulations to our winners, Murtaza, Frankie, Tyrese, Jayden, Sam and Tyler!

Thank you to the continual positive contribution made by the SRC to our community.

Student Leadership Applications for 2020

Hampton Park Secondary College has a strong tradition of student leadership. All students are encouraged to develop their leadership skills to work together create an environment where learners can be confident and creative individuals who actively contribute to our community.

All student leaders at Hampton Park Secondary College model our values of respect, learning, and working together.  Currently we are taking applications for over 100 leadership opportunities across the school. The positions range from Peer Support Leaders who will assist the Year 7s of 2020 transition to secondary school, to College Captains who lead the way for student voice and whole school initiatives. Other positions include House and Domain leaders and Student Representative Council.

All students who wish to apply must model the expectations of the workforce by developing a written application with references, followed by an interview with a panel to determine their positions.

I am looking forward to reading about each student’s achievements and passions.

4C's Update

Throughout Terms 2 and 3, the largest group in HP’s history (from Years 7 -12) have been busily creating, choreographing, singing and performing several times a week in preparation for the 4C’s performance, held at Bunjil Place.

The 4C’s is an event that had humble beginnings at the Community Centre as a VCAL project and has since grown into a 2 massive sell out shows at Bunjil place with over 12 schools participating from our local area.

The 4Cs stand for ‘Cultivating Creative Cultures within Communities’. This showcases Pasifika Culture, generating opportunities for young people to demonstrate leadership, collaboration and commitment to each other and where they come from.

This year through 4C's the students have learned that commitment and hard work pays off, and have showed outstanding effort towards making a positive contribution to our community.

I feel honoured to have been a part of the process this year, as through this experience, I have watched each of these students grow together as one team who look out for each other, support each other and have fun together, regardless of age or background. This is a testament to their hard work and highlighted exactly what the 4cs is all about.

From rehearsals once a week, to whole school holiday rehearsals, and gradually building up to 3 rehearsals per week, I have sometimes seen them on the way to class, afterschool and everything in between demonstrating how hard they have all worked.

However, I need to make special mention of a few students. We have had six dedicated leaders who have been at the core of keeping 4Cs successful this year. These young people have shown the highest level of dedication, creativity, support and communication. I have seen such a variety of people step up under pressure showing me that leadership comes in various forms.

Abigail – Thank you for your leadership of the Cook Island Group. You have shown a high-level of communication and negotiated 'like a boss'. You have shown strength in overcoming each curve ball this experience has thrown us. I am so proud of the way you have handled this amongst other commitments and of course, thank you for teaching me what a pareu is and giving me an insight to your profound knowledge of your culture.

Carmel – Thank you for your leadership, humour, and constant support and understanding throughout the process. You have played a crucial role to many around you, stepping up when required and you have worked tremendously with Konrad to ensure the Samoan group remained strong throughout. You have led with strength and kindness and have been such an integral part of our team and I appreciate all the work you have done. Thank you for answering facetime calls from Ms Newton and I when we were at  Spotlight - when we needed help you were always on call!

Pene - Your laugh, encouragement and musical gift has been such a pleasure to work with. Thank you for your guidance through rehearsals, your creativity and collaboration with the team. It simply wouldn’t have been the same without you!

Izack – Thank you for adding the first Maori component to our 4C's. You have been the calm amongst the storm with your quiet and respectful leadership. Thank you for providing support to our team, encouraging others to participate and modelling what positive leadership looks like to all students involved.

Tommy – Thank you for your leadership of the Maori group and for your knowledge and passion for your culture. This experience has highlighted your easy-going nature, good humour and your relaxed approach to leadership. You have provided a lot of laughs and taught your peers about your culture. Thank you for providing the opportunity for 20 other students to participate and for working through any of the challenges thrown our way and sticking with us, I am proud of you.

And last but not least

Konrad - Thank you really isn't enough. From late-night calls, messages, emails and Teams chats, to the 7.30am mornings and 7.00pm nights in T5, and everything in between. You have been the backbone of this program and words can’t express how proud I am of your leadership. From beginning to end, I have admired your creativity, commitment, energy and determination to put your best foot forward. Thank you for teaching me everything from how to screen, to what an ei is. Your organisation has been flawless and I fully expect your help next year,  just so you know.

Behind the scenes there were a lot of people that made a positive contribution.

Thank you to Lesa Tau’aa, Ruby Tinifu and Jaydene for your support in designing costumes. Another behind the 'seams' contributor (little sewing pun!) was Ms Anita Long. Thank you for donating your time, putting the long hours in, welcoming us into T5 and being so helpful with the design of costumes, as well as supporting us on the day.

Ms Christelle Jean-Pierre, your positivity, problem solving ability and 'leaping' into dance when someone was absent to fill the gaps, will be treasured.

Ms Ellen Newton thank you for always being up for a joke and for bringing up the vibe during rehearsals. Thank you for giving up your time and for building such positive relationships our students, we are all so grateful.

A massive congratulations to all involved, and we look forward to next year!
