Sports Report

Our students have been doing so well in their sporting endeavours over the past month, representing the school in many events and achieving great results.

Basketball News

The Senior Girls Basketball team coached by Ellie Cuttriss competed in the LMR level at the end of July and had a brilliant day.  They won all games and will now play at the State tournament on September 18.  Good luck to the team of Meg Rohde, Remy Day, Emmy Simpson, Lucy Higgins, Rosy Miechel, Mia Gregor, Liv Taverna, Bridget Byrne and Tilly Gray and Team Manager Grace Hammond.

This week the Intermediate boys, girls and Year 7 boys and girls team competed in the Campaspe round and the Inter boys, year 7 boys and year 7 girls team all progressed to the LMR round later in October.  We wish them well in their future games.

Soccer

The year 7 boys competed in the LMR event on a student free day in Moama in July.  The boys played a great couple of games however were beaten by stronger opponents on the day.  It was a great effort for the team to show up on their day off school and thank you to Mr Cantwell for coaching.

Year 7 and 8 Boys AFL

The Year 7 and 8 Boys headed to Nathalia to compete in the Campaspe Footy Competition on July 31st.  The Year 7 boys battled through the day and played some great competitive footy but didn’t get through to the next round.  Thanks to Mr Byrne for coaching.

The Year 8 boys progressed to the LMR round in Swan Hill where they won all of their games with ease.  Coached by Mr Richards, Baxter Anderson, Corbin Anderson, Elijah Bruns, Noah Long and Brodie Marriott were all stand out players but it was really a team effort all day!

The Year 8 boys then headed to Ballarat on Tuesday 21st August to play in the finals on a cold wintery Ballarat day.

Playing the Semi Final against Emmanuel College, the boys had an impressive win 69 to 33.

They then took on Maribyrnong College who were State winners last year and the boys put up a really tough effort but went down by 15 points with a few injuries and no one left on the bench. As much as it was a team effort Noah Long, Corbin Anderson, Elijah Bruns, Brodie Marriott, Sam Deola, James Bentley and Darcy Bruns get a special mention.   The boys were praised by the Coach of Maribyrnong College for their efforts and sportsmanship.  They should be extremely proud of their achievements in getting through some tough games and making the quarter finals.  It was a real team effort and we were proud of the way they conducted themselves on and off the field.

Netball

5 netball teams travelled to Bendigo on 9th August to compete in the Netball Vic Competition.  In a windy and cold day, the girls displayed great ball skills and competitiveness.  Congratulations to Eesha Clarke's Year 8 team and Miss Cook's Year 10 team who will now represent us in the State Finals in the next few weeks… watch this space!

Clay Target Shooting

Mr Leslie and 11 of our students competed in the North West School Zone Clay Target Championship on Thursday 9th August at the Echuca Clay Target Association.  In perfect weather conditions for shooting and lots of competition from all over Victoria, our students enjoyed the day of being out in the open space enjoying a sport that they are all passionate about.  When comparing targets hit to last year, it was great to see the improvement in the numbers of targets shot by all students.

Congratulations to Izzy Keirl who had an impressive shoot making the podium in second place in her age group.  Izzy now qualifies for the State shoot on 3rd September. Good luck Izzy!

School Athletics

We had a wonderful day at the school sports last Thursday.  Congratulations to Chisholm house for taking out the shield and to all of our age champions.   A full report and photos will feature in next fortnight's newsletter.
