Science Week

Science Week

Science Week 2018 had an engineering focus. On Monday, students worked in teams to build bridges using nothing but straws and masking tape. The bridge which could support the most weight won. Thanks to Mrs Whipp who ran this activity. Tuesday saw students building plasticine boats with Mr Cybula. The aim was to design a boat which would hold the greatest number of marbles. Students had the opportunity to try a design out and then remodel to make improvements. On Wednesday it was all in for one and all when the Houses came head to head in an exciting science trivia battle organised by Mrs Chatfield. Chisholm were the champions. Friday’s challenge was put out to each of the LM groups. The mission was to design a container which would protect an egg from smashing when dropped from a two-storey building. There were two winning entries - one which utilised a lunch bag filled with popcorn (and an egg in the middle) and the other which consisted of a paper coffee cup containing the egg sandwiched between two air/foam bags. Students also entered daily quizzes on Simon (thanks to Mrs McAsey, Miss Watson, Miss James, Mr Brady and Miss Pay for the quiz questions).

Mr Leslie wishes to congratulate all students and staff who participated in Science Week 2018.

There will be be another egg drop competition next year – start planning your design now!
