Reading Room: Dr Susan La Marca Visit
Next Wednesday we are extremely lucky to be welcoming Dr Susan La Marca to our College. Dr La Marca is a rock star in the reading world, and will tour our Reading Room program, meet with staff and students, and conduct a Professional Development program in the College Library, to be attended by primary and secondary school staff from across the region.
Dr La Marca is the Executive Officer of the School Library Association of Victoria and the editor of Synergy, the research journal of the School Library Association of Victoria. In 2010 she was awarded SLAV’s John Ward Award for an outstanding contribution to the profession of school librarianship.
She was the Children’s Book Council of Australia Victorian judge in 2006/7, and has been a panel member for the judging of the Crichton Medal (new illustrator) and the Dromkeen Librarian’s Medal. Susan is an adjunct lecturer in the School of Information Studies at Charles Sturt University and is the Regional Director for Oceania of the International Association of School Librarianship (IASL). She is also a member of the Publications Advisory Committee of IASL.
Susan's PhD thesis analysed the factors that contribute to the creation of a reading environment in secondary school libraries, which is particularly relevant to the development of the St. Joseph’s College Reading Room Program.
