Senior School - Year 10 to 12

Senior School Wrap Up

Ty Dennis, Head of Senior School reports.

Every Day Counts

Every Day Counts is a new initiative at the College designed to raise awareness about the importance of attending school every day. Students have explored the implications of not maintaining a high rate of attendance in DiSCovery this week. We ask our families to take time to discuss this with their child as they should have some startling facts to share with you.

Uniform Reminder

Uniform and making sure that students represent the College well has been a focus of our entry routine this term. Students have been reminded about the importance of having a clean uniform and clothing that is the appropriate size.

Short skirts and tiny shorts have been a focus, and young woman have been reminded of the school policy that skirts are to be just above the knee and shorts should be a comfortable fit.

Elevate Education

Elevate Education has begun the first of its study skills lectures this week with students being introduced to study strategies that have been shown to improve grades. Now is good time to ask your child to explain what they have learned and to support them with putting these ideas into practice.

Bullying and Learning Surveys

Bullying and Learning Surveys will be conducted next week. This is a survey that students are given which allows them to anonymously inform sub-schools of individuals who are bullying or disrupting the learning of others.

The results of this survey are read by Year Level Coordinators and appropriate follow-up action is taken. We do our best at DSC to combat bullying and disruptive behaviour, but can only do so if we are aware of such things happening. Now is a good time talk to your child about the importance of speaking up if they are being targeted or know of students who are.

VicSRC Ambassador Program

Congratulations to Jess R (11B) who has been accepted into the 2020 VicSRC Ambassador program! As an ambassador she will connect with like-minded students in our local region to create real, student-led change.

Jess will also attend regular meetings in the city with other ambassadors and key stakeholders such as the Department of Education and Training and media representatives as well as researchers and policy makers.

Jess is keen for any students to get in touch with her if they are interested in having their voice heard.

Great job, Jess!
