DSC Cupids Share the Love on Valentine's Day

This year for Valentine's Day our student leaders dressed up as cupids and delivered over 400 roses to staff and students in the College. This year they added the great initiative of singing telegrams for staff.

We hope everyone had as much fun getting their deliveries as our leaders did organising and delivering them.

Puppy Love

Well done to our sweet School Dog Bowie who charmed his way and melted hearts everywhere he went on Valentine's Day! He is the perfect pup and we are so lucky to have him and his brother Ziggy, brighten up our school day with their funny antics and gentle natures.

Student Voice, Agency & Partnerships International Conference

Reflection by Dana H (9E)

Over three days in December 2019, three students, Jess R , Emily C and Dana H, as well as Mr Shirley, attended the Student Voice, Agency and Partnerships International Conference at the University of Melbourne.

Our focus for this event was to gain insights into what we are doing well as a college and what we need to work on in order to make sure that every student in our school can show authentic voice and agency.

The conference opened on Monday night with Mr Tim Richardson MLA, Parliamentary Secretary for schools followed by a panel of different stakeholders discussing the topic of ‘What are the challenges facing us.’ The night closed with keynote guest speaker Professor Dana Mitra.

On Tuesday, the focus was ‘Where are we now?’, focusing on what we are doing both in state schools in Victorian and here at DSC. We had the opportunity to explore topics including curriculum, feedback, re-engagement, activism, agency, technology, student-teacher collaboration and tokenism.

On Wednesday we focused on the future by exploring the question, ‘Where are we going?’. It was this day which generated lots of ideas for DSC.

This conference taught us how to deal with different situations that we may come across as leaders and overall how to make the most of our leadership roles and do the best we can for our school and beyond.

The student voice, agency and partnerships conference proved very beneficial for all who attended and was the perfect tool to assist us in deciding what we can do together in 2020 to make DSC the best it can be.
