The Benefits of Career Educatio

Career education in government schools is being transformed to ensure students:

  • have the skills and capabilities to navigate multiple careers, and
  • meet the challenges of the rapidly changing world of work.

A suite of new initiatives will ensure students:

  • have access to high-quality career education, and
  • make more informed career and pathway decisions to prepare them for life beyond school.

In 2019 some of these initiatives were implemented with the Year 9 cohort. Here at DSC, we had over 220 students undertake and complete a Morrisby Online report.

This information should be very valuable as our now Year 10 cohort plan their Careers Experience placements and consider their senior course and subject choices later in the year.

My Career Portfolio

My Career Portfolios were also piloted with the Year 9s in 2019 and proved to be an easy to use resource.

My Career Portfolio is designed to support students with an individual, online, accessible place to capture their career goals and plans, share their skills, experiences and accomplishments, and keep together all the information they will need to plan their education and career pathways.

Students can use My Career Portfolio to:

  • create and update an online Career Action Plan
  • store files related to their course and career planning, such as their Morrisby Online report, resumes, awards and examples of their school work (e.g. videos and artworks)
  • access links to current information and resources to support course and career exploration.

In 2020, My Career Portfolio is available to all government school students in years 7 to 12. All DSC students will be introduced to their Career Portfolio in DiSCovery over the coming weeks. This will allow students to further develop their learning and personal goals and begin to accumulate a valuable record of themselves to take with them into their career journey beyond secondary school.
