In the previous issue of NewsLink, we posed the question asking how much money you would earn if you were paid 1 cent on the first day, 2 cents on the second, 4 cents on the third, and so on for 30 days. The correct answer is $10,737,418.23!

This quote was put into practice by one of the year 7 classes upon their return to school after Camp Howqua. They participated in a number of timed fluency tasks including ‘Make 10’, ‘Multiplication bingo’ and ‘Flash math’. Students worked in pairs, and against the clock, to complete tasks requiring the use of key skills.
Brothers, sisters and living grandparents trick
- Take the number of brothers that you have
- Multiply by 2
- Add 3
- Multiply by 5
- Add the number of sisters
- Multiply by 10
- Add the number of living grandparents
- Subtract 150
- What number do you have?
The number of brothers is the hundreds digit, the tens digit is the number of sisters, and the units digit is the number of living grandparents!
