ARTS MATTERS

ARTS KEY LEARNING AREA

The Arts Key Learning Area has an extensive program of excursions, where students regularly visit a variety of Art Galleries to see both contemporary and traditional artworks and exhibitions from a variety of cultures and styles.

All Year 7 students go to the National Gallery of Victoria to spend a day viewing, discussing, analysing, making and writing about artworks in a cross curricular program encompassing both English and Art.

In Years 9, 10, 11 and 12, students attend relevant exhibitions to improve their understanding of other cultures, to explore different ways of thinking and making art, and to broaden their understanding of the world and issues artists explore through their art making. The students particularly enjoyed the recent Melbourne Now exhibition that really challenged and broadened  their understanding of what art can be.
