ATHLETICS REPORT

The McKinnon Secondary College Athletics Carnival took place on Wednesday 6 August.  The theme of the carnival was the 2014 Commonwealth Games being held in Glasgow. Duncan Mackinnon Reserve held many similarities to the host nation, with the Baltic wind chill in the morning, and the subtle sounds of bagpipes filling the air whenever Mr Drummond was around!

Each house represented a competing nation, Monash were themed as Ireland, Chisholm representing Scotland, Gilmore took influence from Canada and Flynn had a Jamaican flair!

It was a very successful day with four new school records being set (L Thompson in High Jump, L Zachest in Triple Jump and J Scholz in the 200m & 400m) and 112 students qualifying for the Kingston Division Athletics Championships on 4 September.

The race for the house cup was hotly contended, with the result pending on the final event of the day, the 40/40 relay.  The winning house for 2014 was Monash, closely followed by Gilmore in 2nd place, Chisholm in 3rd and Flynn in 4th place. Congratulations to all students who attended and participated, and a big thank you to all the staff for helping make the day a success.

Good luck to all the students representing the school in the Kingston Division Championships.
