MUSIC DEPARTMENT
Things have been very busy in the Music Department over the past fortnight in the lead up to the Winter Concert.
MUNCH THEN MUSIC
Munch then Music was held on Friday 8 August. A big thank you to Alex Samulenok and Nick Parkinson for compering the performance program at lunchtime. Congratulations to Ellen Kalaya, Vanessa Wong, Cara Bronstein and Ruby Mather – who made up Soundproof Stanley; James Hardy; David Yarrow (beatboxing solo); Lena Zhan, George Inglis, Luca Soprano, David Yarrow and Shaun Samulenok – who made up Puzzles; and Moran Zhou and Alexia Samiotis for their outstanding performances.
OVENDEN BAND WINS GOLD
The Ovenden Band claimed a Gold Award at the Victorian Schools Music Festival, Junior Band section. This is an outstanding achievement to the many students involved in this ensemble and a credit to their conductor, Ms Tracy Videon. The level of musicianship demonstrated on the day, displays a growing understanding of the language of music. Well done and congratulations to all involved.
PERCUSSION CONCERT
On Monday 11 August a hot night’s entertainment was provided by the fantastic percussion students and their teacher Mr Golovko. Thank you to the many solos, duos and group performances that took place over the night as the level of musicianship was exceedingly high. Congratulations on a fantastic effort.

As we are publishing this newsletter, the Annual Winter concert will be hours away. We wish all within the Music Department the best for the evening’s performance. The many weeks worth of rehearsals will be demonstrated during the performance.
