Book Week August 20-26

Each year since 1945 the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) has brought children and books together across Australia through CBCA Book Week. During this time we spend one week celebrating books and Australian children's authors and illustrators. During this time, we share and tell stories relating to a theme to highlight the importance of reading. The theme this year is Dreaming with eyes open.....

At SKiPPS we grab any opportunity to celebrate reading. We have lots of exciting things happening to celebrate the 2022 CBCA Book Week.

All students will be going to a performance from Meerkat Productions who adapt two books shortlisted by the CBCA for the Book of the Year Awards. One show is a book from the Picture Book Category and another from the Younger Readers Chapter Book category. Meerkat Productions create 2 40-minute musical productions including original songs and puppetry.

The Foundation to Year 2 students will be viewing a live performance of Stallarphant by James Foley and the Year 3 to 6s will view a show adaptation of The Detectives Guide to Ocean Travel by Nicki

We also have author/illustrator and SKiPPS parent, Bianca Loiacono volunteering her time to share her brand new book with The F-2 students and the Year 5/6 students.

Bianca has completed her first book with her non dominant hand and will talk with the students about the process of thinking about writing and illustrating a book right through to actually involving the students in a live reading of a published version. What an amazing insight for our students.

Please find the link here for Bianca’s book if you were interested in purchasing your own copy of her book. I am thrilled to share that SKiPPS have proudly purchased a copy for all year levels’ Classroom Libraries. So after meeting Bianca, the students will be able to continue to enjoy her work.

Book Week Dress Up Parade : Friday August 26

The Year 6 Library Leadership team will be leading all students in a dress up parade on Friday 26th August after our assembly. We encourage all students to dress up as a character from a book that they have enjoyed. This continues to be a highlight on our school calendar as the students (& parents) share their creative thinking and costume making skills. If your child is stuck for ideas, encourage them to chat to their teacher and/or peers to share some ideas.
