Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander - Children's Day
This week we acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Day, celebrated each year on August 4.
This is a day to acknowledge the role community and culture plays in the personal development, wellbeing and confidence of an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander child.
Established in 1988, as a response to bicentennial celebrations, 4 August was chosen as historically it was communally used to celebrate the birthdays of the Stolen Generation with no formal record of their birth date.
