From the Leadership Team

In any given fortnight I can be made to feel exhausted just reading through the list of everything that happens at Greater Shepparton Secondary College to enhance the Teaching & Learning and the Wellbeing & Engagement of our students.

The last two weeks have been no exception, and in this edition of the Newsletter you will read an array of articles that portray some of the events that have taken place in the short time frame of ten school days! If your children have been extra tired, then read on to discover a possible reason why!

In a nutshell:

  • Yr 7s engaged in sporting trials in readiness for the upcoming 15th August Athletics Carnival
  • Yr 12s organised a ‘Through the Decades’ casual clothes day, raising money for the Australian Alzheimers Research Foundation
  • Yr 7, 8, 9 and 10 students have undertaken course counselling and subject selections in preparation for the 2023 school year
  • The Maths Domain facilitated the National Maths Competition
  • Kyabram Fauna Park was visited by our Year 7s
  • Science Roadshow Presentation
  • Blue Edge (Police and Aqua Moves) continue to deliver their program, building the effective communication and collaboration skills of our Yr 9 students
  • Staff undertook after school professional development so we can best support those students who are in out-of-home care
  • Some Music students attended the Orchestra Victoria “On the mOVe” workshops, which finished with a concert on Thursday evening.
  • The Environmental Leaders launched their Project Clean-up, involving Home Groups across the Neighbourhoods
  • Members of the Student Representative Council had an audience with the CEO of the VicSRC, supporting student voice and agency
  • Lunchtime clubs flourish and continue to attract new participants

With Covid and flu still impacting the education system across the state, it is good practice to stop and consider the amazing opportunities that are still afforded to our GSSC students.

It is also timely to thank the teachers, educational support staff, careers practitioners, Wellbeing staff and administration staff that work together to create these experiential, out-of-the-classroom learning opportunities.

Our mantra, “Greater Together”, is alive and well at Greater Shepparton Secondary College.
