Energy Breakthrough

Energy Breakthrough Team

On Saturday 30th July, the two year 5/6 Energy Breakthrough Teams competed in a 6 hour Human Powered Vehicle event at the Casey Fields Criterium Track.

This event gave us an opportunity to practice our racing, pit stop changeovers and check our fitness in preparation for the 14 hour Energy Breakthrough event in Maryborough, in November.

We have been working really hard with our training, preparation and team work in the leadup to the event to ensure that we are ready to race.

The race started at 10:00 am but we had to be at the track very early to set up our pit stop area and have our two vehicles pass through scrutineering.  Scrutineering is where the race officials check over our vehicle to ensure that it is safe for us to ride.

There were 35 teams competing at Casey Fields and there were a mix of teams racing including other primary school teams, high school teams, as well as elite adult teams.  The elite adult teams were racing at speeds of up to 50 km/hr and it was amazing to see, but also a bit scary when they would come flying by, especially when we were trying to move across the track to enter Pit Lane.

Our Rapid Rocket team members are Alana, Amber, Jade K, Kiah, Rhys, Sarah and Sarin.  Unfortunately, Amber and Sarin were unwell on the day and unable to make it so Charli swapped teams for the day.

Our Raging Rocket team members are Charli, Jade T, Luke, Maddie, Neeve, Sharni, Tilly and Zander.

Our two teams rode a total of 47 and 44 laps each.  In total we rode over 200 km!  Our legs were very tired at the end of the day and we are all very proud of what we have achieved so far.

Keep your eyes peeled when in Braeside Park or the Braeside Industrial area over the coming months and you will likely see us continuing our training.

The Energy Breakthrough Teams are not school funded. We will be holding a fundraising lunch later in the term to raise money to help us ensure that we have the right equipment to enable us to compete.  Please enjoy the lunch and support us in our fundraising efforts.
