Principal's News Flash

Corinne Pupillo
Each day I check in on rooms 23 - 26 and I love observing some of the activities that demonstrate skills that have been explicitly taught. In-room 26 the students and staff are playing UNO with the focus on demonstrating many skills, not just maths.
SCHOOL REVIEW - TERM 4
I'm excited that we are beginning the planning for the school review scheduled for term 4. I hope this summary helps explain the focus and value of the school review.
‘Schools cannot improve student learning if they do not urgently focus on a small number of goals for improvement and commit together to a set of strategic actions to deliver upon the goals."
A school review helps a school community by identifying goals and targets to improve student outcomes in the school’s next four-year School Strategic Plan.
Using data and evidence, schools undertake a pre-review self-evaluation (PRSE) to form a collective view of current practice and areas for improvement.
The new school review model is designed to reflect the significance of review outcomes for school leadership, professional practice, curriculum content, student voice and school culture.
All schools must participate in a school review every 4 years. The school review process can take 2 - 9 days

Staffing update
Finance Manager, Renee Ruuska who has been replacing Melissa Beckwith for the last 12 months whilst she is on secondment to the DET Workers Compensation unit will continue in this role as an ongoing member of JSA. Melissa was successful in continuing in her role at the Workers Compensation Unit so we are fortunate that Renee will continue to work at JSA in finance and return to the work cover coordinator role.
We are also commencing the process of recruiting staff for 2023. This is an enormously challenging time as recruitment has been ongoing since the beginning of 2022 and whilst we always remain optimistic, finding suitable staff is proving to be an ongoing challenge for us. We continue to operate 27 classrooms in a 25-classroom model and all our efforts will be to maintain this, if not increase it to 27 if possible.
Recruitment in progress:
- Assistant Principal - Range 2
- Complex Behaviour Support
- Occupational Therapist
- Speech Therapist
- Classroom Teachers

Reminders
Unwell Students
Each morning when students are getting ready for school, I ask that you be mindful of how your child is presenting. If they/he/she is feeling/looking/acting unusual or is complaining of being unwell please take them to the doctor. Minimising the cross-infection will assist in reducing the risk of spreading the winter bugs and viruses.
All student absences can be made through the dedicated student absence notification number. Text the student's name, room number and reason for absence.
Make sure you have the student absence notification number saved in your contacts:
0439 114 197.
