Student Detentions

Dear families,

In response to many parents and carers requests for an additional step in responding to student management matters, the college has decided to include an after-school detention where other steps taken to mitigate issues have not been successful. This supplementary step allows for a refined logical process before moving to other actions.

Detention may be an appropriate response for a wide range of less serious classroom and school behaviour breaches. Detention can effectively reinforce to students the importance of maintaining appropriate behaviour standards.

Schools are permitted to require students to attend an after-school detention, however we will take into consideration a one-off clash with another commitment and negotiate with parents and carers as appropriate to reschedule the detention.

During detention, the House Assistant Principal and their coordinators may instruct a student to finish schoolwork which has not been completed in regular classroom time as a result of the behaviour, new work or other duties.

Our detentions will run on Thursday afternoons from 3:15 pm to 4:00 pm. This will give the student an opportunity to collect books, resources, or make use of the restroom prior to the commencement at 3:15 pm.Please note that the time allocated to an after-school detention meets departmental guidelines. We will send a letter home to families informing them in advance of any after-school detention.

Thank you for your continued support in setting high expectations so all students can achieve success.

Regards,

Ms. Aylin Gokmen

Assistant Principal - College Operations.
