Student Library Assistant Program (Library Helpers)

This term we launched our Student Library Assistant Program. Students go through an "application process" to join the program. During the term-long program, students complete a number of modules including customer service, borrowing/return books, returning books to shelves, recommending books for the Library, helping other students with using computers and printing, and receiving/stamping new books. Students can help in the Library during recess and lunchtime.

Students self-assess as they tick off each task in the modules, and Mr DeLeon signs off each module as they are completed.

Our Student Library Assistants for Term 3 are Cameron, Orlando, and Kevin. In the first 3 weeks of participating, they have demonstrated excellent skills in customer service and borrowing resources to students, and returning books back to the correct shelves.

Genre Highlight - Fantasy & Love Stories

Each issue of the newsletter will feature different collections and genres of books in our Library. First up we will take a look at Fantasy and also Love Stories.

Students can find these books, plus many more on our library shelves!

Premiers' Reading Challenge

It is great to see students actively participating in this years' Premiers' Reading Challenge. A number of students are very close to completing the 15 books required to complete the challenge. Certificates and Prizes will be given to students when the challenge finishes in September.

Students can collect their PRC login codes from Library Staff.

Donation of books from Melton Libraries

We are grateful for the donation of 7 boxes of books from Melton Libraries. Our school is happy to give these books a 2nd life. Students can look forward to seeing these books hit our shelves over the coming weeks.

Thanks Melton Libraries!

Study Hall

Study Hall is our school's independent study and homework club after school. Study Hall operates 3:10 - 5:00 each school day, and is held in the Library.

Benefits of attending Homework Club / Study Hall

There are a number of advantages in going to homework club after school, even if it is just for a short time. The main benefit of coming to homework club is that it is an opportunity for you to catch up on school work that you need to have done for your teacher / and work that you have missed. You’d be surprised at how much work you can get done in a short time, when taking the opportunity to study in a quiet learning space such as the Library.

Other benefits to coming to the Library after school include:

  • Using netbooks, computers and iPads as well as the printer/copier.
  • Computers and books for researching school work.
  • Returning, borrowing and reading books.
  • Social connectedness – meet new people, make new friends. You can even form “study groups” with your friends.
  • Develop good work habits and positive attitude towards learning – something that all students will need as they progress through secondary school and in further study after school.
  • No distractions – means that you can fully concentrate on your school work and if needed, you can ask staff for assistance.

Remember to sign in / sign out at the Library desk, the Library is open until 5pm each school day, and snacks are available!
