Curriculum, Teaching and Learning Update

Year 12

While we farewelled our Year 12 VCAL students at the end of Term 3, the final day of formal classes for our Year 12 VCE students was Monday 21st October. Over the Term 3 school holidays students completed their trial exams and are now gearing up for their final exams, which, with the exception of practical and oral exams, will take place in Rosehill’s Year 12 Centre. The first written exam, English, will take place on Wednesday 30th October. During Swot Vac teachers remain available to meet with students to provide additional assistance and mark and provide feedback on practice exams. We encourage all students to take full advantage of this support and to be completing as many practice exams under timed conditions as possible in each of their subjects, as this has been shown to significantly improve final results.

Our Coordinators, Ms Morabito, Mr Freedman and Mr Wallace and Careers Teachers, Mr Raiti and Ms Vossos, have been working very hard to support and prepare students for the next phase of their lives. In a special assembly last week students had a very informative presentation from the Moonee Ponds Police about staying safe during post-school celebrations (“schoolies”) and how the law operates in Victoria, interstate and overseas. Mr Raiti and Ms Vossos have worked with students to ensure they have a post-Year 12 pathway in place and that they understand the process and timelines for the next phase, including receiving their results and managing tertiary placement offers or changes of preference.

We are looking forward to marking the completion of Year 12 with our students at Graduation on Wednesday 23rd October.

English Teachers Professional Development Day

We are fortunate to have secured highly regarded researcher and Associate Professor in Language Literacy and Teaching, Dr Misty Adoniou, to work with our English teaching staff and KLA leaders this term. Misty will be working with staff to look at how we can improve the literacy outcomes of our students and we will use the outcomes of this day to develop our new whole school literacy plan.

Pupil Free Curriculum Day

Wednesday 13th November is a pupil free day at Rosehill. Staff will be working with Laureate Professor Jenny Gore on a research-based framework known as Quality Teaching Rounds (QTR) throughout this day. Jenny is Director of the Teachers and Teaching Research Centre at the University of Newcastle, and is very highly regarded in her work around improving teacher practice.

Semester 2 Exams

Please make note of the exam dates for Year 11, 10 and 9 students. Year 11 and 10 students will commence an orientation program for their 2020 classes following their exams.

End of Year Activities Program

The Activities Program for students in Years 7 to 9 will take place in the week beginning 16th December. Stay tuned for more information about this from your coordinators.
