Year 10 Tasmania Camp

It was a Monday morning and the excitement had been growing rapidly for the past week for us to go to Tasmania. Our trip to Tasmania began with meeting at school at 6:00am, but not everyone being a morning person, some of us just wanted to sleep, whereas others were ready for the adventures that awaited.

After what felt like forever, we finally hopped on the aeroplane, and headed to Hobart. Our first taste of Tasmania started with a national park, which had a magnificent waterfall. We then all tucked into a feast of sausages that were cooked by our culinary connoisseurs, Ms Mortellaro and Mr Hosking. Afterwards, we headed to the Museum of old and new art (‘MONA’), where our perceptions of art were challenged, as it was something we had never witnessed before.

On an early Tuesday morning, we took a ferry to Maria Island where we were greeted by a pod of dolphins. As Maria Island had beautiful views we ventured around to see it for ourselves, and it was exquisite to say the least.  We even had the chance to interact with some wombats during our hike!  After a long day of exploring, we ended the day by relaxing and going to the movies to see the riveting “Angel Has Fallen.”

Wednesday was a very eventful, yet exciting day as it was one of the best days we experienced! We started the day with the “Zoodoo Wildlife Park,” where we had the chance to feed kangaroos and emus. We were also greeted on our bus safari tour by a few zebras, as well as camels which people weren’t very fond of, as most of us were on the floor crying for help! Later that day we departed to the eerie Port Arthur where we went on a bone chilling ghost tour through abandoned prisons and homes.

On our last day in Tasmania, we headed off to the Cataract Gorge.  We travelled on a chair lift which had breathtaking views and wildlife. Afterwards we explored the Mole Creek caves, which can only be described as captivating.

The Spirit of Tasmania was the last thing on our camp itinerary, where we travelled back home to Melbourne. The boat ride was a tad rocky but everyone made it through to see the next day.

On behalf of all of the students who attended the Tasmania camp, we would like to thank Ms Baker, Mr Hosking, Ms Purvis, and Ms Mortellaro for making this camp possible, and for bringing enthusiasm and energy into every day. We all had such a memorable experience.
