From The Classroom

WHOLE SCHOOL CONCEPT - CREATIVITY

This term our whole school focus is CREATIVITY.  Learning to think creatively provides us with the confidence to explore new environments and solve new problems.  Learning about the different ways people can be creative, allows us to be creative in our day-to-day lives. Thinking creatively helps when planning, designing, building, and improving.

Students will have the opportunity to present all their creative and imaginative work at our Creativity Expo to be held in week 9 on Thursday 5 December.

Team Foundation – Topsy Turvy Tales – students will practise thinking creatively and use their imagination as they explore fairy tales.  They will work in groups to build a puppet theatre to present a modified fairy tale at the Creativity Expo.

Team 1 – 2 – Robot Buddies – students will develop a curiosity about robots and programming.  They will consider the purpose of different objects that they use in their everyday lives and how the objects have been designed and built.  They will work in groups to design and build a robot using craft materials.  They will create a poster advertising their robot.

Team 3 -4 -  Frame by Frame -  students will practise thinking creatively as they develop an idea for a story by developing a simple plot, setting, and props.  They will draw a storyboard that depicts the most interesting scene of their story idea and use this to make a stop motion animation.

Team 5 – 6 – Bizarre Bazaar – students will gain a real-life understanding of the design and production process when creating a brand new product.  Each student will produce an item that is marketed and then sold at a market called ‘Bizarre Bazaar’.

BRICKS 4 KIDZ

This week the Team 1/2 students have been involved in an exciting incursion run by Bricks 4 Kidz. This was a fabulous way to immerse the students in our Creativity unit this term of ‘Robot Buddies’. Students were given two challenges: the first was to follow a set of instructions to construct a Ferris wheel made out of Technic LEGO and motors. The second challenge was to code the Ferris wheel to move in different directions, speeds and to add music to their model. All students were incredibly engaged, challenged and inspired. It was also wonderful to see the students working cooperatively and collaboratively and persisting when they encountered challenges.
