Principal's Report

From the Principal...

Last week a panel was formed to interview and shortlist applicants for three classroom positions. We will commence 2019 with 19 classrooms and the school is currently organising a staff profile that caters for all children, of all ages. Teaching teams will consist of a mix of staff with different skills, strengths and experiences. Emphasis will be on lower class sizes particularly in the lower year levels. our new staff members will be encouraged to attend transition activities scheduled to commence later in the term.

This week i have attended my Bastow Principal course and listened to many inspiring presenters. The newer Principal's in the room were made well aware of the changes required to education to ensure our young people are prepared for their uncertain future. I look forward to sharing my learning with the rest of the staff on my return.

I am also excited to be attending the Foundation concert on Thursday evening and pitching in on Saturday at our school working bee. I invite all families to come and join us on Saturday morning 11:30 to 1:00pm to lend a hand in the many tasks we have flagged. Please bring any garden tools and equipment you think may be useful. A sausage sizzle will be provided for the hungry workers.

2019 School Payments & Contributions

From Friday 16th November the 2019 School Payments and Contributions including 2019 booklists will be open for processing on Compass. Full information will be sent via Compass once this has been made live.

Bicycles and Scooters

Students are permitted to ride their bicycle or scooter to school; it is recommended that students in Foundation to Year 3 be accompanied by an adult.  Where parents permit their child to ride to school, they should satisfy themselves that the route taken is a safe one. In particular major intersections should be avoided. Where there is a school crossing, pupils must dismount and walk across the road at the crossing.

  • Bicycles and scooters are not to be ridden in the school grounds.
  • The wearing of helmets is COMPULSORY when riding bicycles & Scooters.

Please ensure you have talked to your children about road safety, in particularly using caution looking for cars when crossing over roads and driveways, as well as the importance of adhering to the laws set in place. A full list of bicycle laws/rules can be found at https://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/safety-and-road-rules/cyclist-safety

Playground Supervision

Playground supervision is undertaken by teachers to cover morning recess and lunch periods in addition to a brief time before and after school. (8:45am – 9:00am and 3:30pm – 3.45pm).

Students are not supervised in the school grounds before and after these times unless attending an organised activity.

Any students who arrive at school prior to the yard being supervised and are not part of an scheduled morning activity (e.g. sports training) may be placed into Before School Care to be supervised at the cost of the parents.

The morning music stars playing at 8.50am and students and parents are welcome to move into their classrooms to start getting organised or speak to their child’s teacher.
