Mr Irwin's Message

Mr Irwin's Message

Hello families,

I’m excited to share with you all that we’re coming back, and I’m sure you’re excited to hear this as well.

On Monday May 25th staff will have a curriculum day to prepare for the next phase of learning this term. There won't be any remote learning or on site supervision on this day.

I’m sure you have all recognised the amazing work of our teachers so far this term. Readjusting to another routine for the remaining weeks of term is no small feat but again, I have full confidence in how they will prepare to ensure the best learning opportunities occur for students.

Tuesday May 26th is the return date for all Prep to 2 students. Remote learning ceases for these students as of then so if families choose to keep prep to 2 students at home they won't have access to remote learning like they have. Our OSHC service will be available for families needing this; please make sure you check you have bookings in this if required.

The Chief Health officer of Victoria has declared schools a safe place to be. To further ensure this we have some hygiene practices and social distancing measures we will be implementing and need your support with. It’s important we all work together so we don’t have to return to remote learning at any stage.

The first major change is that parents and visitors won’t be permitted on site. This includes before and after school. It’s also important that at drop off points around the school parents maintain social distancing. You may never have dropped your child at the gate to head to class before and both you and your child may be feeling anxious about this. We’ll have extra staff at drop off times to support this and now is the time to start having a conversation with your child about this so they aren’t overawed on the first day they return.

You’ll still absolutely be able to make contact with teachers, but this will need to be via SENTRAL or telephone until things are back on track.

At each school entry point staff will be on hand to help students sanitise their hands. If all students sanitise their hands on arrival it gives us the chance to stop the spread of any germs coming into school. Throughout the day students will sanitise their hands at recess, at lunch and before any specialist class that equipment needs to be shared at.

I have organised an additional clean to occur in the middle of the day which will include the school playground, tables, door handles and high contact areas. Our drink taps will be off limits so please ensure your child comes to school with a full drink bottle.

Otherwise for our returning Junior Students a school day will look the same. Tables will return to normal, Discoveries and Specialists will re-boot and playground equipment is permitted to be used.

With everyone playing their part in these changes we can safely get students back into a routine of learning. Our Years 3 - 6 students return on the 9th of June and will continue learning remotely with the support of their teachers between now and then.

Finally, we have a second wave of iMacs available for sale. These are older than then $100 version we advertised last newsletter and will be available for $50. Please call the school or email to purchase one. Our office remains closed to visitors in the current climate.

Thanks for watching, we look forward to your support in returning to school.

The Teesdale Show!

Don't forget, tomorrow learning is dedicated to students creating a masterpiece they are proud of and sharing it with others, just like a good Country Show!  To provide time for students to work on their masterpieces Literacy, Numeracy and Discovery tasks won't be set on Wednesday. It's expected students will use this time to work on one of the show entry categories.

We want students to take time in completing their work and create something they are proud of. Adult/family help is encouraged! See the Kitchen Garden page for recipe suggestions if cooking is your forte! Entries (submitted via padlet links that will be provided on the day) will close at midday so students can browse the show and teachers can view entries and provide commendations for students on their effort.

Please contact me for any questions. I hope you enjoy the show!
