Reports

It is coming to the end of the first semester and Mid Year Progress Reports will be distributed to families  through your  Sentral - Parent Portal to view  and print from 3:30pm Friday 26th June.

To be able to access your child/rens report you will need your Parent Portal login. If you don't have access to the Sentral Parent Portal  please follow the instructions below. If you have any question please contact Vanessa on 84435544

Reports to families describe the student’s achievement of the learning outcomes expected for the reporting period, what they are doing well and what their next steps are for growth.

When discussing your child’s report, the indicator of effort should be considered along with the achievement level. We believe it is important that parents give weight to the effort. Generally there will be a close connection between the achievement and the effort.

It is also a great opportunity to talk with your child about their Student Comment. These comments are where students have the opportunity to reflect on goals they have set throughout the first two terms and progress they have made.

Over the past weeks I have had the pleasure of reading a number of Student Comments and it is inspiring to read about the goals they have achieved and the next steps they are planning. This reflection links back to Goal Setting Meetings and the vital role they play in supporting student growth.

A child's report can bring feelings of joy, excitement, and pride; it can also cause concern, frustration, and uncertainty. In either case, the reporting period marks a new beginning to set goals as well as reflect on past work habits, achievements, and challenges.

Year 7s to High School

As you may know, Year 7 is moving to high school in 2022. This means that if your child is in year 5 or 6 this year, they will graduate from primary school next year, at the end of 2021.

Having two year levels graduate at the same time is a unique situation and we want to assure you that our students will experience a positive and successful transition from primary to high school.

To ensure the experience is memorable, we are putting lots of time and thought into how leadership opportunities, senior jumpers, graduation ceremonies and participation in activities that were historically ‘Year 7’ events will include Year 6 students. We will provide you with further information about our plans when decisions have been made.

We believe that with Year 6 and 7 students both completing their final year of primary school in 2021, it is important that all students are provided with leadership opportunities and can equally participate in activities that celebrate the conclusion of their years in primary schooling.

We know that for many parents and students, milestones such as Sports Day and final year school jumpers are important when they think about Year 7 moving to high school. We also know that some parents with Year 7s graduating in 2021 want reassurance that their children will not be ‘forgotten’ in the focus on the Year 6 students departing primary school at the same time. These are the types of issues that LNPS is already thinking about and planning.

We know from speaking with families that they’re excited about the opportunities the move of Year 7 to high school will bring for their child. However, we also know this is a big change and there are various things to consider to ensure a smooth experience.

We have heard families of those students graduating as a Year 6 in 2021 are thinking about:

  • the process of selecting a high school and if they should have started this already
  • whether their child will be ready for high school
  • whether their child will participate in the milestone activities associated with the final year of primary school

At the same time, we know families of Year 7s graduating in 2021 are thinking about:

  • choosing a high school for their child
  • whether their child will still get the same final year experience or if they will be overlooked because of the year 6 cohort
  • if their child will be ‘forgotten’ in their new high school because they aren’t the youngest year level starting, with the Year 7s entering high school in the same year as the Year 8s

In order to prepare for the move, the school will probably conduct an information session later in the year for parents and caregivers, when we have more information and also when the easing of COVID-19 restrictions mean that we can hold larger gatherings at school. We will definitely keep families informed as planning progresses further.

COVID-19 Update

We received information from DfE regarding some changes and easing of restrictions that will come into effect over the coming weeks.

Volunteers

Volunteers will be able to return from the first day of Term 3; Monday 20th July. We look forward to welcoming back volunteers in a variety of roles. It will be a requirement (until SA Health inform us otherwise) that all volunteers complete the site access form on entry at the front office before volunteering each day.

Parent Visitors

Parents are able to come onto school grounds at drop off and pick-up times  if essential but are still unable to go into school buildings unless it’s for a pre-arranged meeting with a staff member. Parents coming in for a meeting must complete the site access form on entry at the front office prior to the meeting. This is an SA Health requirement that we must follow until further notice.

School Sport

This is quite complicated. Although volunteers (i.e. parent coaches, parent team managers etc) can resume, we need to wait for individual sporting groups (football association, basketball association etc) to make their own decisions and then contact us. It’s quite possible that some sports will begin earlier than others, and also possible that some sports don’t resume their season at all; we simply don’t know yet. We will continue to let parents know whenever we have firm information.

Sports Day

We will be investigating holding Sports Day late Term 3 or early Term 4. At the moment Sports Days have restrictions of not being able to use change rooms and showers, but that doesn’t impact on LNPS.

Excursions:

Excursions are allowed to resume again and we had our first one this week.  We have to make sure that enhanced hygiene and social distancing measures can be practised on excursions, therefore excursions will need to be considered on a case by case basis. Additionally, we have been advised that students and accompanying adults must not attend an excursion if they are unwell (even mildly unwell).

Camps

Camps are also allowed to resume  in Term 3.  A number of PLTs are currently investigating options for camp for later this year and details will be released as they become available.

These changes are in the very early stages. If you have any questions please contact the school.
