Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Carers,

As we move into the last two weeks of term, parents are asked to continue maintaining social distancing and not to collect on verandahs. Thank you for your understanding and flexibility.

We ask that meetings with staff not be before school to enable teachers to continue with being available to be with students making personal connections and getting prepared for the day.

Our supervision of students commences at 8:30am. We request that students not come to school earlier if possible.

Those of you who have been able to pick up and drop off at the gates have assisted with the movement of students.

It has been wonderful acknowledging students through the Honour certificates that have been given by staff. The student councillors have done a great job of assisting me to distribute them.

Our Faction cards being given out to students displaying one or more of the 3 ROS areas-RESPECT, ORGANISATION, SAFETY has seen over 1000 distributed in three weeks which is a great effort and one which is bringing the school closer to the whole school goal we set for a Free Dress Day with extra recess time!

Our senior students are very excited about the prospect of representing the school at our modified Winter carnival. White Gum Valley has put together two Netball teams along with a Football and Soccer team. The carnival will be held at Winterfold primary school next Thursday 25 June starting at 9:20am.

The three schools in our division are ourselves, Winterfold and Fremantle.

Please send in your photo envelopes if you haven’t yet done so. Our school photos will be undertaken on Friday 26 June.

Our school is assisting the Universities by taking on a number of Student Teachers. They will be in for varying periods between now and the end of the year. Thank you to our staff for taking on a mentoring role.

As mentioned in our previous newsletter, please continue to remain in contact with your class teacher and if you would like to have a chat before the Reports are distributed in Week 10 please let them know. It may be possible to meet, have a phone conversation or depending on availability, organise an online meeting.

At our recent P&C meeting our Executive were voted into their positions.

Congratulations and thank you to Sherry Fletcher [President elect.], Di Kerr [Secretary elect.] Mark Taylor/Nikki Gretton (Vice Presidents elect) They join Gavin Giles our Treasurer.

An Ideas Shack is being planned for early August along with some fundraisers and get-togethers.

Busy bees have been planned for Wednesday 25 June from 3:15pm and Saturday 27 June from 10:00am.

The Uniform shop is looking at opening on Mondays from 2:45-3:15.

The second Board meeting for the term was held recently with members looking at our yearly calendar, reviewing the Mobile Devices policy, discussing the latest versions of the school three-year Business Plan and Data Tracker, exploring possibilities for our 120th Anniversary in 2021 and discussing parent contact opportunities before and after when the Reports go out in week 10.

Various Grounds projects for the school being put in place by the Education Department were also explored including: the resurfacing of the courts along with replacing fencing, flag poles, goal posts and some onsite parking.

Recently I was sent a link from Fremantle College displaying the Music talents of Year 11 and 12 Contemporary Music students. It was great to hear the vocals of one of our former students, Rubina. The performance of the group was excellent!

If there is anyone who is familiar with photo books through Officeworks and may be able to assist some of our senior students putting together photos and text for a Bike book could they pass a message on to the office?
