35th Anniversary - Looking Back

The new millennium saw Nazareth College continue to provide a great learning environment for students as well as many opportunities to put their faith into action.  With new buildings and new digital technologies the College was taking on the challenges of the 21st century.

 

2000

  • The College Chapel was opened.  It had to be moved from Neerim South.
  • Volunteer staff and students created two stain glass windows for the Chapel.  The windows were designed by Ms Heather O'Brien.
  • Chisholm were victorious in both the House Swimming and House Cross Country Carnivals.
  • Construction of the gym was started in July.
  • 2000 was the Year of Jubilee in the Catholic Church.  Nazareth focused on Aboriginal Reconciliation.
  • Changes in the VCE program - CATs were replaced by SACs.
  • All students and staff are given their own school email account.

2001

  • Construction on the gym was completed and the building was formally named Sports and Performing Arts Centre (The SPACE).
  • Nazareth hosted 170 students and staff from 12 Catholic colleges for the Secondary Mass for Mission'.
  • The school production was a new work called 'battleZones'.
  • Mannix House won all three House Carnivals.
  • Internet speed was increased from 64k line to 2Mb bandwidth.
  • For the 7th year in a row Nazareth won the SIS Chess Championship.
  • The Year 7s undertook the State Government's Achievement Improvement Monitor (AIM) testing.  This was a precursor to the Federal Government's NAPLAN testing.
  • Ms Patricia Glover resigned as Deputy Principal.

2002

  • Ms Jackie Hess became Deputy Principal (Staff, Teaching and Learning).
  • Mr Nick Scully joined the College as Deputy Principal (Admin and Student Services).
  • MacKillop won the House Athletics Carnival.
  • McAuley won the House Swimming Carnival.
  • Mannix won the House Cross Country Carnival.
  • 'Arts in Sync' was renamed 'Showcase'.
  • The Class of 2002 started the annual tradition of Year 12 Dress Up Day for their final day of formal secondary schooling.

 

2003

  • Year 9s took part the first City Experience program.
  • The Peer Support Program was introduced for Year 12s and Year 7s.
  • The Staff Intranet was launched.
  • The College production was 'After Forever'
  • Chisholm won the House Swimming Carnival.
  • MacKillop won both the House Athletics and House Cross Country Carnivals.
  • The Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) was introduced, with our first Year 11 class taking part.

2004

  • White boards were successfully trialed in 10 classrooms and more were installed.
  • The first mid-year Social for the Year 12s was held.
  • McAuley won the House Swimming Carnival
  • Mannix won both the House Athletics and House Cross Country Carnivals.
  • Mr Nick Scully resigned as Deputy Principal.
  • The Resource Centre was remodeled.
  • The College Intranet was expanded for students to use.
  • The Senior Debating team won the SIS Debating Championship.
  • VCAL is expanded to Year 12.
