Learning and Teaching

Week 9, Term 2

Welcome to the end of Term 2.

It's great to be able to sit back and reflect on all the learning that has occurred this term. Each level has been busy exploring the curriculum areas of History, Design and Technology and the Intercultural Capability. These were the main focus of our Inquiry units. Many concepts in Religious Education, Mathematics and English were explicitly taught, investigated and developed.

On Thursday 22 June our school will be open for our 'Celebration of Learning'. This provides an opportunity for all families to come in and share in their child's work. Each year level has provided a synopsis of what they will be specifically showcasing. This includes:

Prep - Students will share their writing about an olden day toy they have enjoyed playing with. Children will make a jack in the box with their guests. We will have a slideshow playing with some of the children's learning.

Year One - Students will share their favourite Fairy tales character profiles and a Fractured Fairytale they have written. They will also display an Olden Days School Picture Wall.

Year Two - Students will present their unique toy designs and talk about materials toys are made of today and in the past. They will share their published narrative ‘The night the toys came alive’. They can tour the room with their guests and reflect on our Stewardship displays. They can also play a variety of Paul Swan mental computation games to demonstrate their skills such as busting digits, doubles, near doubles and subitising dice. They may also demonstrate how we make active use of the word wall when creating texts.

Year Three - Students will be presenting their research projects on an influential Indigenous Australian. Students will display a sample of a persuasive piece they have written and displayed on their chromebooks.

Year Four - Students will share their convict diaries. Families will be able to look at work displayed on the wall and see different tasks displayed.

Year Five - Students will be presenting their learning about the important events and people that helped in the development of our great nation. This includes famous events from The Frontier Wars to the Eureka Stockade and famous people from Ned Kelly to Dame Nellie Melba. They will be presenting their dioramas, open minded portraits. The Volume city Maths task will also be on display.

Year Six - Students will be presenting their Water Wheel STEM projects linked to sustainability. Groups will present their History research projects from post Federation to the present day. Various writing and Mathematics tasks will also be on display.

Our specialist classrooms will also be open and families are invited in. Our Garden will also be open and the Kitchen will be on display until 3.15pm. Sausages will be available for purchase outside the uniform shop. We can't wait to share our learning with you!
