Hi all

On Wednesday, all of our Year 3s to 6s travelled to the Mentone Athletics Club to compete in the2023 St Louis Interschool Athletics carnival.  The students were all rugged for the conditions and were prepared to run, jump and throw (Citius! Altius! Fortius!).  Everyone competed in the 100m, 200m, hurdles, shot put, discus, long jump and high jump.  64 students were chosen by our Spirit leaders to run the 4 x 100m circular relay.  And for those, who still had the energy, ran the 800m.

My highlight of the day was Blake’s fall in the hurdles.  Not because he could have been injured, but because most of the field stopped running and chequed to see if he was ok.  The “Landy-esque” situation was a great display of sportsmanship.  With the winning line in clear sight, they were more worried about their mate.  Good job boys!

For our district team, the triple jump will be decided at school and the 1500m runners will come from our cross country results.  It’s a big day to get 370 students to have a go at all of these events and it requires the expertise of the St Louis staff and the help of our volunteers.

We can’t thank the volunteers enough.  These events just simply could not happen without you putting up marquees, fixing hurdles, fetching shot puts, raking sand or deciding those close calls at the finish line.  Thank you for supporting fallen hurdlers or the ones that just needed a little time out (whether it was your kid or not).  We love having you there because it is the only way we can get the big program through successfully.  The kids love having you there cheering them on and you help create the atmosphere of the carnival.

I would like to thank the following “army” of selfless volunteers:

Alysa, Angela, Tanya, Jayne, Lisa, Marney, Renee, Meagan, Natasha, Amanda, Marissa, Louise, Nicole, Gareth, Kristin, Alison, Angela, Gina, Dom, Melinda, Lynette, Naomi, Meagan and Emma.  I apologise for anyone I missed  To the parents on the discus and shot put events, thank you for your dedication and patience to the task.  Lisa and Tanya - may you dream of discuses forever.  To Gareth who was just about first there and last to leave, may you never have to put another marquee for the year.

I would also so pass my thank you to the parents of Blake, Lucy, Teagan and Patrick for their support of their young distant runners who all made it to the South Metro Regional finals

BREAKING NEWS!

Today, our Year 6s (and a couple of ring ins) competed in the Chelsea District Lightning Premiership. The winning team of these events get to go on to the Kingston Division finals as part of the School Sports Vic pathway.  Our Girl’s Netball, Girl’s T-Ball and AFL all won and will be playing in early term 3. The other teams all finished in the top half of the ladders.  It was great effort from the players and well supported by the Year 6 teachers/coaches.

Yours in Sports
